We went to see mum's consultant on wed He didn't tell me anything I didn't already see in mum 😔

Her speech is unrecognizable and very difficult to hear what she is saying ,she has a fixed stare now ,we are in the waiting list to see someone who can hopefully help with her sight .

She is suffering with swallowing ,her mobility is very bad now .

Unfortunately she has got a very bad ulcer and she is allergic to all the antibiotics,so silver dressing and compression bandage .it has grown in size now .

The doctors are reluctant to give her any medication that will take the pain away .

I'm afraid doctors won't to fix ,but you can not fix what mum has ,so let's make her pain free NOW!!

Sorry for the long post ,but she feeling helpless x

Hi Blitzford , So sorry to hear about your Mom's decline. I don't know if this would make a difference with your Mom's pressure sore treatment, but Flagyl (an antibiotic) which is available in powdered form is used as a topical antibiotic treatment applied directly; shaken onto the open area of the decubitus and an alginate or gauze dressing placed over it. If Flagyl tablets are the only form available they can be ground into a powder and used in the same way. The pt's weight needs to be kept off of the wound site as much as possible. The dressing gets changed every day or more often as needed and the wound is cleaned with an appropriate cleansing agent. Bed sores (decubiti, pressure sores) occur when preventive care measures are not in place or aren't available. I hope that your Mom is still able to eat and drink.

Wishing you and your Mom some positive interventions !

Love,

Elise

Is your mum actually in pain or are you assuming she is because of the ulcer? For a long time my mum felt no pain from cuts or sores because her brain wasn't handling the messages it seems. If she is in pain then there is no reason not to address it so please ask your GP for a referral to hospice as they are the experts in pain relief. Also please get advice on pressure relief to make sure she doesn't get any further ulcers.

So sorry to hear your mom is suffering. My mom had PSP too and it's awful to watch them going through this terrible nightmare.

Regular rotations every 3 hours helped my mom from getting bedsores when she became bed bound and lots of pillows placed under the feet, between the knees, under the elbows and tilted under alternative lungs to avoid fluid build up.

Does she have access to a community nurse?

Take care
