Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of the fast track process for trying to get ChC funding? Thanks

We were awaiting our big assessment meeting for CHC when mum took a turn for the worse, particularly her swallow. Unknown to me the GP put in an application for fast track and two days later it was approved. The fact that it was done so quickly was a big surprise. I wish it was so straight forward for everyone.

Good luck.

we’ve just been refused the big assessment so we’re advised to try the fast tracked route

Hi again Stormtrooper. The following is from the book How to get the NHS to pay for Care. If you believe your relative should be in the Fast Track process and you are experiencing obstruction from the Continuing Health Care people approach a GP or Consultant directly and ask them to intervene. A Fast Track is to make a fast decision if your relatives condition is deteriorating rapidly or in 'terminal decline' at the end of life. The aim of Fast Track is for urgent care and NHS funding to be put in place straight away. I think a checklist is the first stage which your social worker would carry out on your behalf and advise. Good luck it is not easy. Barrie

Hello there

Our senior District Nurse applied for fast track CHC and it was granted within days. As and when we needed to increase it, the nurses did the applications.

We had an assessment some six months later, which I was nervous about, but again our senior nurse was with me to back up the application, and it was granted. The assessor in fact complimented the nurses on how well the applications had been completed.

Our final increase application was just before Christmas 2019, but sadly my husband died before it was approved.

My advice would be to get your GP or medical professionals involved. You need yo be realistic and give the worst case scenario.

Hope this helps

Anne

Hi. My husband was granted it about 10 days before he died so we were never able to take advantage of it but the Palliative Healthcare Team did it for us and it was granted within about 48 hours. It would be worth contacting your local Hospice or getting your GP to do a referral for you. They were like a Godsend to me over the last 6 months. Good luck and big hug AliBee x
