Hello, I am looking for a bit of advice. My husband who was diagnosed with PSP 4 years ago and is currently on a respite break, he has contracted COVID and I am a bit scared due to the PSP and the whole chest infection scenario. He is due home later today as the respite centre is shutting for the Christmas break. I have tried to get a hold of the Parkinson's nurses for advice but they only answer their phone between 10 and 2pm and don't respond to answer phone messages. Has anyone on here had a relative with PsP that contracted COVID. Should I be trying to get course of anti biotics/antiviral drugs. I really am at a loss of what to do. Sorry for the long winded message. Thankful for any advice. Px
Covid: Hello, I am looking for a bit of... - PSP Association
Covid
Hi Purp23I live in New Zealand. I have gad several friends who have had Covid, although none have been diagnosed with PSP
The remedy here is to take antivirals within 5 days of infection and use Panadol and throat tablets. Antivirals are for 4-5 days and about 4 with each dose. Not great to take, but they do seem to work.
Hope this helps your husband recover.
Hugs

P S. Have no personal experience with Covid - yet!
Yes, contact your GP or the NHS helpline 111 to check eligibility and get the drug. Paxlovid is very effective in reducing deaths related to COVID.
My father has PSP prob for about the same time, and got Covid in the rest home. He was totally fine. He did not even know he had it. Surely the respite place will give you some handover care.
Hi there! My husband who has CBD and myself are just at the end of our covid. After 4 vaccins we seem to just have had a bad cold, my husband a little more severe with a very sore throat but no temperature or chest infection. We took paracetamol and rested for a couple of days in the warmth of our home. The strain of the virus does not seem as strong these days so hopefully your husband will be alright. Best wishes.Sylvie.
My mother who has CBD had COVID that she got from staff in her nursing home. She had it even milder than I did when I got it. You don’t say whether he is up to date with all the boosters - that’s the key thing. My mother also just recently got a chest infection - I suspect that one was due to aspiration - and recovered quickly with antibiotics.
My husband has PSP and I contacted Covid in September. I tried to keep away from him as much as I could, but of course that was impossible because I was caring for him. We were really worried that he would catch it and would be very poorly. He tested positive a few days after me, but his symptoms were like a bad cold whereas mine were much worse. Obviously it varies from person to person, but it might not be as bad as you think.
