CBD and Seizure?

Hi, after lunch yesterday my mum fell asleep and has slept pretty much continuously since. Mum did not realise her friend paid a visit yesterday afternoon and when the carers arrived to hoist mum from armchair to bed she did not wake up either. Strangely dad was able to feed mum some dinner and provide water but mum was not really awake. We would describe it as a zombie like state. There were a couple of moments when mum opened her eyes but was unable to recognise her surroundings or us. Mums voice is very soft and the tone has changed. Mum has Alzheimer’s and bad cognition anyway so we were losing any form of conversation but this is different. Whilst asleep mums mouth is open also. We called hospice and the nurses came late last night and they suspect a small seizure of some kind. They are calling the GP out this morning. It has been very distressing to experience. Anyone experienced this?

Thank you. It sounds similar. In between seizures are there periods of lucidity? I am just waiting for dad to wake up and I will be going round there for the day so it will be interesting to see what today brings. It’s just scary to think this is mum now and she will never remember us again.

It may be worth checking if she has an infection of some sort? My hubby used to get UTIs and every time he would 'space out' a bit until we got it back under control.

Hi, thanks for your message. Mum is on a catheter and we are dealing with UTIs quite regularly so have a close eye on that all the time. This is very different and more than spaced out. Through discussions with the GP and nurses it was a seizure, apparently this can happen with CBD patients and it takes a few days to come out of it. Today, mum is in a better place and is recognising her surroundings and us. However, this could happen again but at least we know what to look for and can understand a bit better. It was a scary experience.

That does sound very scary indeed! We never had to deal with a seizure but I recall one instance on holiday when hubby got dehydrated because it was so hot. He fell asleep and we couldn't wake him up! Fortunately we were on holiday with family, one of whom is a doctor. She mixed up a rehydration mixture and we slowly drip fed it to him over the course of a few hours and he recovered thereafter. I can still remember the feeling of panic when I didn't know what was going on, I just knew something wasn't right (or less right than normal when dealing with these diseases!) Glad you at least know what happened and your Mum seems to be recovering.

I think we just have to go with our gut most of the time don’t we. I can totally understand how terrifying your experience was. With this hot weather we have to make sure mum is drinking enough, sadly she can’t water herself. Just a horrible disease in a million ways. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, they aren’t pleasant to remember.

Hi, thank you for your message and I am so sorry to learn of what you went through and your hubby passing away. We didn’t have the jerking just a sudden zombie mode and mum was non responsive to anything. It was quite scary. Mum has woken up today out of that state and back to where we were 2 days ago. It’s just nice she is with us again. The GP has said we just have to take each day as it comes as it could happen again.
