I’m a caregiver for a lady with PSP. Is fatigue a common symptom of PSP? After breakfast she’s back in bed to rest and takes another nap in the afternoon. She wants more energy and to be more alert. Any suggestions? Thanks

Fatigue
Hi horseriley
My mother is the same, she’s so exhausted after her morning routine,, she goes from bathroom to sofa (cannot walk anymore)) then is taken to the toilet when the carers are there 4 times a day , so her day consists of sofa or bed and she’s too tired to do anything else. There’s no answers, it’s such an awful disease , my mum doesn’t have a clear diagnosis but they are more leaning towards CBD rather that PSP .
Sending love
Hello Horseriley,
I don't know if this may be helpful, but my husband napped on and off all day. Many times it seemed to me that because he had trouble physically keeping his eyes open, it was just easier for him to doze. He did not have a lot of energy, but again, comments about feeling tired could have been because it was more and more difficult for him to do things, even watching/listening to TV and boredom could have inspired the feelings of tiredness.
Big hug,
Purrlie
My wife has her eyes closed most of the time and would relax and doze if she was left to do so; I try to keep her occupied with little jobs or take her a walk out to keep her stimulated.
Her consultant has suggested having an afternoon siesta where she tries to get an hour of proper sleep to help get her through the rest of the day.
I don't have any suggestions and I was diagnosed with PSP in April 21 but severe tiredness is definitely something I have experienced and it's getting worse. It must be a common symptom of PSP.Keep up your good work!

My mother will fall asleep in the middle of being fed and often snoozes on and off. In the earlier days she would take 2 naps a day. Often her nighttime sleep was disrupted due to frequent urges to get up to use the bathroom.
Hi there, I have witnessed and learnt a lot on how PSP impacts drastically on sleep function because of the brain cells it damages and this means people with PSP generally don't sleep well during the nights and the result is fatigue during the day. Dr Larry Golbe has information on this. If you search his name (leading expert on PSP ) I'm sure you'll find more info. I found many good resources on researching fatigue and sleep disorders when I searched alongside PSP that explain in more depth. Thank you for being such a caring person to enquire about this. It is so misunderstood and overlooked.
Thanks for the information, I will look into it.
