My husband's progression of disease has sped up over the last year--but the new wrinkle is suddenly developing new, fairly severe allergies. After relying on peanuts for years for a snack, suddenly his whole face swells up, and he has to completely avoid peanuts. Same with shrimp. But now, in the last month, stone fruits make his whole mouth swell dangerously. And then today, he woke up in the morning, with NO food or meds or anything to drink, with the same angioedema. We treat with Benadryl, which works except knocks him out, and have epipens and the ER. . . but I want to know if anyone has experienced anything like this? I'm hoping to figure out why his system is suddenly so reactive. We did bring it up with the doctor and are waiting for the first cancellation with the allergist. But I find with weirdness like this, you lot are a much better source than the doctors in their specialties.

Both shrimp and fruit, in general, can carry traces of preservatives or phytosanitary products that can cause allergic episodes to a greater or lesser extent in certain people.
We are used to washing all the fruit we eat and if the skin is rough (for example melon) we even clean the surface with a nail brush under running water.
Thoroughly washing the fruit before being handled or consumed is a recommended general precautionary measure.
Luis, Thank you for the reply! It's always so hard with these weird diseases to know what is related and what isn't. I've badgered the allergist and finally got an appointment for Tuesday. It's just so strange that all these allergies started in late-middle age.
