A couple of weeks ago, I posted a question about my concern regarding mums PSP consultation appointment at hospital. This was in respect of managing her risk to Covid given increasing cases and also reducing potential situations of stress. Mum is ninety years old and frail. I thought it may be interesting for some to know how we got on. After contacting the consultant and setting up the online facility, the appointment took place in the nursing home who were very supportive. We follwed all Covid precautions. The nurse from the home and I, set up the call in a designated room and my mum joined us. The consultant was able to complete his assessment with the help of the nurse and he involved mum as much as possible. The consultant, nurse and myself had a very helpful discussion about how to best support mum as PSP symptoms progress. Mum was not put through any hassle of travel outside of the home, transport connections, waiting around, toileting in unfamiliar surroundings and I too was at ease. The nurse was also able to be there and present her up to date information directly. This wouldn't have been possible if the consultation was in hospital due to the one carer covid restriction. So all in all, I would definitely recommend enquiring if the online facility is available for the PwPSP before heading to a hospital consultation in the given climate. I understand from the consultant it is very much dependent on the individual case and the consultant makes the decision depending on what s/he needs to achieve. Thanks.

I am so glad to hear that it all went well for you. Thanks for the feedback. AliBee xx
Glad to hear that! I just got a call today from the specialist whom will be seeing my mom in the next 2 weeks, to change this appointment into an online visit. I was a little worried initially since this is a new doctor and I would prefer him to evaluate my mom’s condition in person, that seems to always reassure that they checked everything to the fullest.
Glad it went well. We had something similar but not as detailed in that it was going to be a telephone appt but I said we could do an online video consultation and they happily set that up. I preferred the assumption that not all patients could use online though as my mother wouldn't have been able to had I not been able to see her.
That sounds a much better way to do things & good that the nurse was able to join to. For people with conditions like PSP, really think they need to do this type of consulting more often, maybe it's something positive that will come out of Covid.
