Bed sores

Hello everyone! Just looking for some advice please. My Mum has been in hospital for the past month and is starting to get a bed sore on her sacrum. I know sheepskin pelts have been recommended on here before but can they still be used if the skin has already broken? Is there a type of cushion that would help that she could use in bed and in a recliner? Many thanks.

Hi ya! I’m afraid there is no OT in the hospital and I’m not sure which patches you mean? I’ll ask the nurses tomorrow which powder they’re using. This is the first sore she’s ever had so it’s all new to me! She has a standard pressure cushion from her chair but that’s it. I asked our community OT if she had anything I could drop in but she said the nurses should take care of it. I don’t mind buying something but I’m just not sure what to get for her. X

Hi Tweetybird21!

Once produced bedsores are difficult to cure. It is best to prevent them:

1) Observe in the patient areas of the skin that turn reddish-pink and apply a special oil that in Spain is called "Corpitol", sold in pharmacies.

2) Apply Allevyn type protections

3) In orthopedics they sell "anti-bedsores" chair cushions.

4) In Orthopedics they sell anti-bedsore inflatable mats for the bed.

Greetings and luck.

Luis

Thank you, I hadn't heard of Corpitol before so I'll see if the nurses have heard of it!

My husband had a sore at the tip of his coccyx. We were referred to a wound care doctor. We used patches on the area after cleaning with Skintegrity. They also prescribed a cushion for his chair and recommended that he drink a protein drink every day. They said the protein would help his skin recover. We have been discharged from wound care, but I still clean the area daily with Skintegrity and watch the area closely.

Go to Amazon and look at getting an alternating pressure mattress for the bed. It's done my Esther a world of good. For home use of course.
