Looking to have a wet room installed and wondered if anyone on here had experience of either Mobility Plus or Age UK/Handicare. Or if anyone had a positive experience with any other firm please.
Thank you

We did not use one of the big names but had a company design a wet room for existing needs and future needs which served us well without looking too clinical.
Wall hung toilets and sinks allow for access on a mobile bath chair. Grab rails and none slip flooring absolutely essential.
My only advice would be choose a company that employs an Occupational Therapist who does an on site assessment - this was invaluable.
Good luck

So critical to have it well designed, and well installed, especially the floor. We used this smaller Sussex firm orangebadge.co.uk/shop/cate....
They were excellent. I still enjoy the end result and it enabled my husband to be cared for at home until he sadly died.
Hello Tricia
Sorry I have no advice on the two organisations you used as we used a local Worcestershire team. I do have a couple of suggestions that may help.
We installed a ‘pocket door’ rather than the usual swing door to the bathroom. The additional cost and small space you lose is well worth it for the convenience of being able to get the wheelchair in and out easily.
Also, we installed a shower toilet at the suggestion of our OT. It has been really good and helped eliminate uti’s (fingers crossed!).
Also one small point we didn’t think about! The toilet is next to the sink but just too far away for Jax to wash her own hands - very annoying!
Good luck and take care, Ian
I would get quotes from Mobitily or Age Concern, then go to your local bathroom specialists, using some of their ideas. A local company will look after you a lot better and fit a bathroom that will look good as well as functional. I was lucky, we actually owned the local Company, so I designed my own. I used lots of chunky grabs rails, great for Steve and the end look is very fashionable. Steve left me three and a half years ago now, but I still love my bathroom. The last thing it looks like is a disabled bathroom, yet as my daughter said at the time, Steve would swing from one grab rail to the next, leaving plenty of room for the shower commode and carer in the later days.
Sending big hug and much love
Lots of love

We used our OT who contacted our council, and they did an assessment, we had a grant and paid about 25% towards it, also I bought the tiles as they only quoted for the cheapest, and we paid the tiler to do the whole room, as the grant only covered the shower area, also as my husband has a hoist we didn’t have a seat and rails fitted, and the OT provided the shower wheelchair, oh yes and they made the door wider, the end result is lovely
Hope you get on ok
Janet
We used Mobility Plus as it needed to be done fairly quickly. Was going to use a phrase that's probably unPC these days, but they seemed to have more bosses than workers. Specified more than we needed, shower screen (carer can't reach to wash), pump-away when drain was on other side of wall.
When Anne was next away, got brother (does odd jobs, should have got him in the first place) in to help make changes - remove shower screen, pump, got bigger shower tray and redid floor.
Thank you very much everyone for taking the time to reply - your comments have been very helpful. Tricia
