Thoughts please vomiting followed by spasms.

My FIL has recently started to have bouts of vomiting followed by episodes of spasams which last about 15-20 mins.

He has been well for such a long time. So this is quite a new change we have had about 5 episodes now.

His diagnosis is CBD.

Hi Pooches, have just read through your posts about your FIL. I note he has had a lot of trouble with spasms.

1. I wonder if his bowel is spasming abnormally. It would guess there is a change in the way the bowel is working to make him vomit and spasm for any length of time.

2. Does he have a raised temp that might indicate infection somewhere?

3. Another reason for vomiting can be a bowel blockage of some sort - constipation, or maybe a twist, an infection, an ulcer, or something more sinister.

I would suggest you need to get him to hospital for some tests. I would not put it down to CBD, although it may have some influence.

Bowel movement is part of the autoimmune responses, as are temperature, blood pressure, breathing, under normal circumstances. My hubby was diagnosed with CBD, and experienced problems with heightened temp and BP, both not initially linked to the disease.

I still think a trip to hospital to investigate the cause is a necessary first consideration.

I hope this is not too difficult to manage, given current circumstances. I would try and do this as soon as possible!

I hope there is a good outcome.

Hugs

Thanks Jen,

I think I will speak to the doctor, he did mention the other day that he had been constipated. So far he has blamed almonds which he eats very rarely and now toast which he has been eating without issue for a long time almost daily. He says the vomiting is painful and so it his tummy but once he has had the spasm that follows everything feels much better. It is very strange.

Thank you for your reply it has given me alot to think about.

There is always a lot to think about with CBD involved.

Ask him how much fluid (water) he drinks in a day. Make sure he is sufficiently hydrated. And I have been told beer and soft drinks don't count!! Sadly! Too little fluid can cause constipation. Senacot is not always the complete solution to constipation, either, unless the bowel has become sluggish. So check it all out.

I like to be fully informed. I would be sure to investigate all scenarios. It may be the specialist looks at elderly and wonders what use it is to fully investigate.

I would want to know the cause of my discomfort. That may not be how your FIL feels, so try and get his opinion too as you help him along the rocky road that is Life!

I hope there is a 'simple' solution.

PS. My hubby had bowel cancer in the family, but it missed him out. But it has hit his family 3 times to my knowledge.

Hi Pooches, It's been 5 days since your post and I'm catching up. I took a short break from the forum because I've been trying to slow things down and rest a lot more. I'm interested in knowing what has taken place since your post. Did your FIL improve, how did his doctor treat the symptoms? I do hope that he's feeling better!
