Frazzle’s nest was about the size of a tennis ball, or maybe a baseball. I was shocked to see this new nest being inhabited already because the nest is only about the size of a quarter. I am just completely being taken by surprise here. The momma in this picture is really, I mean really (!) small. If she didn’t have as much color as she does she could be mistaken for Razzle or Dazzle. We’re going to need to come up with new names for this brood 🥰

How fantastic! Here we go again!

About size of nest - I wonder if the nest is able to expand. They were so tiny when they hatched.

I don’t think that Frazzle’s nest was this small to begin with, when it contained two eggs? I’ll need to go back and compare photos to be sure.

I’m waiting for sunset in the backyard right now, to see the dancing hummers in flight. Just sitting on the patio right now like an old person (lol) . There are two little ones that buzzed by. Then there was a third one that stuck around and hovered. I feel pretty special to be able to witness this, or maybe I’m grasping at straws for goodness.

There is a sweet smell in the air. It isn’t coming from the roses nor the tangerine vines. Interesting! I wonder if a nearby neighbor is making a special brew of something. No, it smells more like honeysuckle. I have a wee bit of honeysuckle in the front yard, maybe it’s that 🤷‍♀️. I’m so thankful and grateful that I can witness and share what’s happening. Everything seems to have a meaning. Of what, no clue!

Peace

Can you get a hummingbird feeder? These must be the little brood who have been raised so could hang around more if regular food available.

Just something to think about when we get let out!

I have a long list of plants, seeds, compost, etc when we are let out soon: and calling tradespeople to line up for jobs when allowed. I am in 70+ bracket so supposed to stay put for a bit longer!

Weather still lovely here but cooling off. Come May 1 it usually gets colder. Am warm inside!

Aww, SewBears, what a fab insight into life from your patio; I can almost smell the honeysuckle - always such a strong scent in the evenings.

You always drop something into your posts that tickles me. This time "just sitting on the patio right now like and old person" did just that. We've had some lovely days here in the UK but the evenings are chilly - you need your arms covered if sitting out. I have some lovely shawls, some are gifts brought back from far away places, but each time I throw one over my shoulders I feel 100! Probably memories of when my gorgeous man was full of fun and if I donned a shawl he would always ask "where's your clay pipe?" - oh happy days!

Well, looks like you are going to be kept out of trouble for a few weeks to come, keeping tabs on your new lodgers.

Enjoy - we certainly will.

I read that the nest expands as the chicks get bigger - isn't that clever. Not too many of my clothes do that - lol!

That would make a lot of sense! How clever and wondrous is Nature!

Isn't it just amazing. What intrigues me is that those babies kept the nest perfectly clean, instinctively pushing their little bottoms to the edge so all their waste was ejected over the side.

How about Fizzle and Sizzle? Take care and keep safe. Rob

Great names Rob - who would ever have thought we'd be spending our Saturday morning thinking up names for baby hummers; well actually I think it's a great way to idle away an hour or so. How about Twizzle for mum?

You said mom is smaller as well as the nest being smaller. Could they be different species?

Housing always seems to be limited, a challenge definitely in Los Angeles.

One takes what one can find.

I loved hearing about the nest going to good use to a NEW family.
