I Spy (year 2019)

In response to SKYE04 (Liz) inquiry. The nest started to be built and this photo was snapped on May 28, 2019. I wasn’t even sure what it was at first. It became occupied 11 months later. It took Frazzle a long time to make it perfect. I only spotted glimpses of her in the very beginning and I wasn’t sure if she would use it. I am so grateful that she did!

So do you think that the nest was started in 2019 by another hummingbird who decided it wasn't the right place for her to build, and then Frazzle came along this year, spotted it and did a bit of DIY to make it into a suitable home for her babies?

Ok, let's try an easier one, lol, has mum been back to the nest today as you'd not seen much of her yesterday? I'm feeling like a worried auntie.

What with the crows on watch and mum keeping a low profile I really need the happy ending now.

Frazzle was feeding them last night but I couldn’t get a picture. I saw her a few minutes ago in another part of the yard catching insects. I keep checking on the babies and they are sound asleep. I can see their little bodies breathing really rapidly. They seem to be doing really well and they are content. I also noticed that some of the vines around the nest have little droppings of bird excrement and I’m wondering if Razzle and Dazzle have learned not to go inside of the nest 🤷‍♀️ I wish I had a 24/7 movie cam out there. Lol

Aww, all good then. It seems that those little guys, even from a few days old, instinctively wriggle their bottoms to the edge of the nest in order to keep it clean so that is what you are seeing on the vines. So tiny but so clever.
