Just a thought ... These are hard days, yes ... but, in some ways, not at all. I am sharing this snapshot, taken seconds before I started typing ... There will come a day, that I will remember this time spent with my sweet Momma as a distant memory, and wishing I could have this time back, here at the Lake House!
This picture has a story ... Simple conversation going back and forth between my Momma and I; most very random. Momma has just about lost her ability to speak —- she has thoughts, opinions, and works hard to express ... with every ounce of energy in her!
We are watching Sleepless in Seattle, and she looks at me and whispers — I wonder how Tom Hanks and his wife are doing? I smile, the very fact that she is up to date on all of the current events surrounding us - she may not be able to verbalize, but indeed is fully aware!
Sipping on unsweetened ice tea (we are diabetics under control ;-), working on a puzzle, chips and salsa as a snack ... and I look up at a gift of a picture hanging on the wall that says, “Don’t Stop Believing” on the wall.
Cherish the memories that you are making, as difficult as times may be for ya right now ... this too shall pass.
Praying for you all this Wednesday "quarantined" afternoon ...

What a lovely cabin! Tell your momma that I also wonder how Tom Hanks and his wife are doing. It’s so great that she is aware of current events. What crazy times for all of us!
I tried to take hubby and our two dogs for a stroll today. The weather is gorgeous! But hubby didn’t last long and we turned around and came back home. He’s weakening, sleeping more, I’m worried, but loving every minute of being with him!
Not just is she keeping up with events but she has the generosity of spirit to feel for someone else - very special.
I think people thinking Mum was not there cognitively at all, was one of the really difficult things to deal with. Mum used to listen to the radio current affairs programme each morning & the local talking newspaper, it gave us things to "talk" about and made her feel part of the world still.
What a beautiful home you have there. I love seeing this, knowing you are both safe in quarantine. It seems like your mum has progressed quickly. She seemed very active and now cannot speak. It's wonderful that she is still sharp and can communicate, and that she still tries her very best.
Yes, enjoy this time to the fullest. You will look back on this as a very sweet time. Please let her know that all of us on this site are thinking of her and sending our love and best wishes.
Thank you Joy — It is our escape, and looking forward to days on the porch with sunshine and warm days. I cherish the days of conversation, and yet we can sit quietly and smile at one another with the confidence that I’m right here with her.
