Hi all

When we moved to our bungalow 5 years ago, we had no wheelchair access to the house and bathroom, the occupational therapist dealt with it all and applied to the council, we had the bathroom adapted to a wet room and a ramp with french doors at the back, we had to contribute about 20% and pay for upgrades such as tiles, as they will only pay for basic ones, and they only part tile, so you have to pay if you want the whole room doing, we also applied for the disabled disregard discount on the council tax which is about 18/20%, it takes a while to get the ball rolling so you have to be on to them frequently, like I said my husband can’t get a shower until it’s done, it’s very well worth the effort
Hope this helps and good luck x
We were offered a grant but it was going to take five months to complete (at least) and we were restricted to what the council were offering. Their wet room design was quite restrictive and didn't offer full access from the floor lift through to the bedroom, so my hubby ended up designing it all and doing it himself, much sooner than the council could have done it, much more cheaply and exactly to my dad's requirements. As my dad was progressing quite quickly, we didn't feel we could wait.
Ours was a coucil grant
