Final days

Just a few words to let you know we are at home now for the final days. It was a battle with social workers and hospital officials to finally get dad home, thanks be to God he is here now with his family close by. I will stay in this forum and hopefully be some use to someone sometime who is yet to reach this part of their journey. Dad is comfortable so far, we pray he stays so. His family are here for him. He was diagnosed with PSP last October, Parkinson`s prior to that and Alzheimers 5 years ago....we know reading the information links shared on here that it was PSP 5 years ago so he got his correct diagnosis when he was already in the final stages but we were not aware of that. There is so much awareness and training required. Keep sharing your experiences and information links. I only realised there was a forum recently when I contacted the PSP Association asking if there were people in Northern Ireland we could contact for a support group.

Blessings

Best7,

Covering your Dad, you, and your family now with prayers of comfort and strength during this stage of this cruel disease. Cherish these last days with your Dad, not remembering him now while experiencing the effects of PSP, but the knowledge of his life well lived and the love he has shown you.

Just have people around him and talk to him, he'll still hear you even if there isn't much response from him. Sounds like you are keeping him comfortable and at this time that's about all you can do.

Home is best if it is at all possible, I felt privileged to be with my family at Bens bedside as he peacefully passed away just over a year ago. That memory is dear to me as I feel sure that he was aware we were all there telling him it was time to let go and be free of this terrible disease. After a dreadful few years I feel that his death was a good one, pain free and surrounded by those he loved and who loved him back. Let him know how much you love him as he leaves this world, isn't that what we would all hope for at the end of our lives.
