Virtual meet ups?

Hi everyone,

I lost my hubby to PSP nearly 2.5 years ago now, and although I haven't been as active on the forum as I needed to 'get away' from PSP for a while, I still visit here from time to time. One of the things that struck me again today, was how isolated some people are. I'm in South Africa where PSP is a very rare thing indeed, and the only support I found was via this group. However, I was fortunate to attend a PSP support group in the UK and also to visit with the marvellous Anne, and I must confess to being more than a little jealous to read about the London meet-ups. There is nothing like being able to talk to someone who just 'gets' it.

There are so many carers who are not fortunate to be close to a major centre with more carers, or who can't arrange to take time out to travel to a meet up. I can't recall if anyone has ever suggested a virtual meet up on this forum? I know we attempted to have everyone do a simultaneous log-in and chat, but I mean a virtual dial-in. Has this been attempted? Is it something people would be interested in? I'd be happy to look into what might be available and set something up to try it out?

Let me know :)

Sharon

Hey Sharon, lovely to hear from you, was only thinging about you the other day, thought I must contact you, but got way laid!!! Sorry.

Virtual meet up would be great, but way above my pay grade as to how you do it. Will definitely join in, if someone explains in words of one syllable how to connect.

Please PM or email me and tell me your news, still haven't plucked up the courage to come "home" yet. Get close, then chicken out. One day! One day!

Sending huge hug (would love a real one!) and much love

Lots of love

Anne

Hello Anne, I've thought of you often, and I'm afraid I'm just as guilty as you at not putting (virtual) pen to paper. I'll send you a message soooooonnnnnn, promise!

Hi Sharon, good to hear from you. I will definitely join in if simple instructions are given. I think I may be on the same pay grade as Anne....or lower 😁 XxxX

Hi NannaB, lovely to be back in contact again :) How are you keeping?

I think we can find a nice, simple solution to the virtual meet-up that will take all pay grades into account :) Will post some options soon.

I’m doing fine Sharon. Of course I would like Colin back as he was before PSP but I’ve found life can also be good after PSP. Life is for living so I’m making the most of it.

Hope we soon meet up virtually.

Hi Sharon

Great idea.

Unless you already have a preferred system. This is free for up to 25 people with video.

skype.com/en/features/group...

There may be better.

Warmly

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, Skype was definitely one of the options I considered (and Zoom, which Spiralsparkle also mentioned). I use Skype meetings a lot for work, it's free and pretty easy to use. Just want to think through the logistics a little bit before I put something together for consideration. Hope to 'meet' virtually soon :)

Hi Sharon,

My mother has CBD and I'd be interested in joining as well. Would welcome the opportunity to chat with others.

Sharon great to hear from you again. How are you doing? I am kind of coping but only kind of!

Hard this grieving? I actually think it is worse than caring if that's possible.

Hope you are well.

Your idea is a good one but my pay scale is below Heady and NannaB! 😅

Yes it would be amazing if we could do an online meet up.

Kevin has already suggested Skype. There is another video call called Zoom that is free for so many log ins also but not sure how many off the top of my head.

It is a fantastic idea. Would be so lovely to put faces to names.
