My Mum is refusing to take her laxido

As it tastes disgusting. We have heard that you can get this in liquid form which does not have much taste to it.

Does anyone know if this is available in UK

And what is it called

Many Thanks

Martin

We had the powder format, it does taste disgusting

Answer is; boil a mug of water add laxido and then add apple and black currant squash (add quite a bit) it will look like ribena and take the horrid taste away

Wait til cooled before giving and say it’s ribena or juice

Try it, good luck x

I used to mix the Laxido with chocolate milkshake in summer and hit chocolate in winter improved the taste considerably! So long as it is mixed with adequate fluids it still works!

Put some squash in it. Geoff liked his with Vimto but any squash or juice will take away the nasty taste

We have the orange laxido for dad but my mum has an alternative one called Movicol. Can always ask to change it too.

Kind regards

Ask GP to prescribe Movicol ready to take sachets. It's only 25mls liquid, has slight taste of orange. It's the same price to NHS and is available on NHS prescription. Has the same composition and avoid and having to drink 100 MLS fluids with it.

Ask for an alternative like movixol which comes in neutral in flavoured. Then add to tea/cod squash etc.

My husband has a peg, so all meds are crushed or liquid, and we use lactulose, which is liquid and would be ok with orange juice are you in the uk, it is on The nhs

Before Ian had his peg we used sachets of movicol which is a mild powder, in different flavours, you can have up to 8a day, it I think we only needed 2, if it gets too bad try Senna, 2 at night, that always works

Good luck with it all

Hi Martin, we have orange flavoured Laxido which is not unpleasant. You could ask your pharmacy for this instead of the non flavoured one, which I admit is not very nice. Best wishes Nanny857

Hi Wardy01!

These are our experiences:

• My wife has had some episodes of constipation that have been corrected by applying an intensive Mediterranean diet based on fruits and vegetables, abundant liquids (In particular, around 100 c.c. liquid before breakfast) and helped when difficulties by the drug Duphalac (lactulose, an oral osmotic laxative), but on some patients it produces annoying internal gases. As an alternative to Duphalac we are testing "Movicol" (polietilenglicol and various salts) which is notably more active and does not produce gases. The problem is to find the right dose per day to achieve a regularity. At this time we are trying around 0,4g in the morning at breakfast (mixed with liquids) with success (although there are some days that do not do anything that tend to be long to do much). (Higher doses (6g / day, 3g / day, 1,5 g / day) have produced too intense effects. Yogurts with pieces of plum (at lunch) have been of special help and maintenance. Avoiding lemon juice, chocolate, bananas and rice, helps.

Staying quiet favors constipation. A program of gymnastic exercises, especially walking, favor regularity.

In case of not “open bowels” in 2 or 3 days, it is interesting to consider the apply a Micralax cannula (citrate / lauryl sulfoacetate) rectally.

Hugs and luck.

Luis.
