I’m considering a small tattoo in memory of David. Not a big one, just a little one on the upper arm so it can be covered easily when I want it to be.
I’m considering a small hummingbird as it’s a nice bird, but also has the more hidden meaning that we all know.
I’m open to opinions as I’m really torn on what to do. I’ve never had a tattoo before, so am completely lost. But I would like some form of permanent memory, although I wouldn’t be tattooing his name, as I’m not into that.

A lovely way to keep David by your side, Ratcliffe. It's easy to talk ourselves out of things only to regret it at some time in the future. Yes, we know the hidden meaning of the hummingbird in our lives but it is the most beautiful little bird (we saw them on a trip to California) and it will serve as a lovely reminder of your life with David and your love for him every time you look in the mirror. Your decision in the end but if it means a lot to you then do it. Best wishes, Hils. x
I love the idea! Maybe you could twine his initials into the design in a way that you know they are there but not super obvious to others. Or use roman numerals beside the hummingbird to indicate a date that was significant to yo both. (Well, that's what you get for asking for opinions, lol! 😉)
Seriously, I think its a nice intimate way to mark the significance and carry the memory. 🌟🌈❤️
Gut instinct is a good thing. The hummingbird is beautiful and if a discreet tattoo will bring you comfort and remind you of your love for and good times with David - go for it!! Though don’t quote me on that as you endure the pain of the Tatoists needle ( ouch)
I love the idea and I have thought of doing exact same thing, go for it I don’t think you will regret it, otherwise it would not have come to mind.xxxx
I think a little hummingbird would be lovely in memory of your David.
If it's something you want to do go for it
Love Lynda 😊
My first thought was ouch! But it's not my thought that counts... it is yours! (My body benifits from acupuncture when needed... & l feel great when it over.)
I feed hundreds of hummingbirds every summer... they do bring me joy. GO 4 THE JOY !
WOW. That is a great idea. I had never given that a thought until I read your post. I have never had a tattoo before so a bit nervous, but I will give it some thought. Thank you and go for it.
I think it’s a fantastic idea. I am not in to having tattoos myself but I am very into anything humming bird themed. Those of you that are in the U.K. and shop at Dunelm might have seen that they do lots of stuff with humming birds on and I have humming bird designs all over the house and they remind me of Steve every day. So I say go for it get the tattoo, my daughter had her first tattoo on a visit to Australia and she hates needles but was absolutely fine. Good luck xx
Following this post I finally had a small hummingbird tattoo done on inside my wrist. A permanent tribute to my dear late wife. No regrets whatsoever. x
I haven’t done anything yet as been away on holiday and stuff. Also quite frightened of needles so plucking up courage. I need to find out who the recommended tattoo artists are in my area so ai can go in for a chat...
I got my first tattoo 2months ago hee hee as a forever memory of my hubby
It starts with the year 89 which is when we met then it has a line of his true heart beat which i got from the hosp charts in the middle is an A entwined with a V ( our initials) and then another heart beat line leading into an infinity symbol (sounds big)
but its all in a tiny line on my inner forearm I love it !!!!
