CBD memory loss?

Mum is in nursing home at the moment in 4 week placement. She keeps telling me she has not been showered (mum likes one everyday). So when I ask the nurse they tell me they have. Who do I believe. Is mum losing her memory or is she seeking my attention ☹️. I appreciate they probably can't shower her everyday but are washing her.

My Mum has CBD and her short term memory is poor and getting worse. It is getting difficult as she can't remember things and asking for it to be done again such as hair wash, shower, tablets.

As your Mum is in a different setting I'd say this may make her cognition worse, it would for mine. She maybe feeling unsettled so could be a mix of memory loss and attention and confusion. If she looks washed and clean then I'd say they have been cleaning her. When Mum was in hospital her cognition was awful and she was very confused and was not her normal surroundings etc.

My husband said the same when he went into respite so I read the notes and after 4 days there was no mention of a shower, only a wash. He always showered every day and to him this was and still is important. I spoke to staff and said I wanted him to have a daily shower which was written in his care plan. They showered him daily for the rest of the week. I don't think he would gave got one if I hadn't mentioned it.

I just said the same thing NannaB! it might be a wash cloth they are using ...no doubt much easier but not as satisfying for the patient! B still takes his own showers thoug I am rigtht there....I bought him a shower chair which has been really good....and granted this is at home....

Under her arm or inside elbow, place a small piece of medical tape or a small mark of water soluble ink ....if they wash her it should come off....They may be doing it in the bed as opposed to a real shower which may be the thing thats bothering your mum....You might ask her if they are using a wash cloth in the bed instead of a real shower...

The carers will try to do least they can get away with as they are usually running round a number of patients, unless specifically stated need. So ask the home to see her notes if says "wash"or just "got up from bed prepared for day" insist on daily shower or bath. Your mum may have memory issue but simple checks as well as AVB's practical check can confirm her worry. I check on M's hair if greasy no shower hair wash in 3 days, but no problem so far at present home.

Good luck Tim
