Hot or cold?

I'm wondering if something that's happening recently to my husband (with PSP) is common. For a couple of weeks now, even though we keep the house temperature around 22oC, he has been cold and wearing two fleeces. Almost overnight, he changed and has, for the last week, been very hot and going round the house only in his underpants! The house temperature hasn't changed in that time at all and, currently, I'm closing myself off every now and then in one room with a fan heater to get warm as he insists on having the heating turned down. I draw the line at cooking in my duvet coat!! Is this temperature fluctuation normal with PSP? Has anyone else experienced this? And, more importantly, does anyone know of anything that might help?

Have a good new year everyone - hot or cold!

Dear Ruth

My husband with PSP cannot regulate his temperature. He is either stripping off it demanding the heating be turned up.i have discovered a large down waistcoat the best option so that I can quickly take a layer off. I spend time in shorts or a thick jumper!!!

I have heard others speak of similar probs - wretched PSP!!!

The portion of the brain that regulates body temp may be affected, making you husband feel either hot or cold when it's really not either in his environment. This is one reason an indicated fever (or not) is not 100% reliable in detecting something like an infection. Dad always said he was warm, until the last few weeks then he started saying he felt cold.

My husband’s temperature fluctuated from very hot, fever temperature, to cold. The GP told me the part of the brain which controls temperature was affected by the PSP and like a baby, his body was unable to control it. I had a fan for when he got very hot and cool flannels on his brow and put a duvet over him when he was cold.

My husband also struggled to regulate his temperature and from being too hot for a long time he really became cold and felt the cold so badly during the last few days of his life

My Mum gets very hot about 5pm (you can almost set your watch by her), off comes the cardi, the windows are opened, she sleeps with a 1 tog duvet on the bed and then in the morning she is cold and wants her layers on again. It's one of many things PSP has thrown at us that I have given up trying to rationalise, room temperature makes no difference.
