PSP and severe COPD combines

Does anyone else share this combined diagnosis? My husband just came out of the hospital and was prescribed 2 litres per hour of oxygen but I have had to turn it up to 4 to keep it stable at a safe level.

Hi I would get some medical advice regarding upping the oxygen to 4l. My husband had oxygen at home but we had to be careful as you can give too much depending on the state of his respiratory system, Steve had a problem getting rid of the carbon dioxide from his lungs and it kept building up to too high a level so we had to be careful when upping the oxygen. We were told to aim for 88-92 SATs rather than 95+ I hope you get it sorted and I can relate to oxygen concentrator alarms as the same happened to us just before Christmas.

Thanks for the advice. Gerry has the same problem with getting rid of the carbon dioxide. I am trying to get an appt with the family doctor. I am uncomfortable with anything lower than 90 because everytime he moves around it dips down to 84. Sometimes he takes out the cannula and I woke this morning to find the level at 75.

So Steve also has COPD along with PSP?

Steve had respiratory failure along with PSP and sadly he passed away on Boxing Day his SATs dropped down to 48 in the night and I had to call 999 and get him taken to hospital and he passed later in the day. We also used a nippy (cough assist ) e3 times a day.
