Xmas Present

This may seem a silly question. But what can we buy for my Mum with PSP for Xmas.

She can’t move anymore and sits in her wheelchair all day, just wondered if anyone could recommend something

Thanks.

How about some very soft and comfortable fitting pajamas? Dad was in his pjs most the time during mid to late stage and had serveral sets.

Does she have a lavender pillow? Smell is a sense that can be overlooked for pleasure.

Maybe think about what she used to like? Did she like music? some music - an iPod with songs from her past? Can she see? Would she like some pictures of people she loves or scenes from past good moments blown up and framed or put on a wall near her? The key being make them BIG as her sight is probably declining... Would she enjoy a massager, or one of those footpath or foot massager units?

Good luck!

Brian used to love listening to his music so we brought him a little CD player that we cauld move around with him, mind you when my granddaughter came she had a little digital speaker and she would play music from her phone through it

How about a neck cushion, one of the horseshoe shaped ones, we have just lost our mum from PSP and this was used constantly in the late stages. X

We’ve bought our Mum a lovely, soft shawl/cape from M&S which we can wrap around her when she’s out of bed. Plus flowers. Lots of flowers.

Good luck xx

Hello,

My brother is the same, just sits in his chair all day, can't move/speak/swallow.

I bought him some of his favourite fur filled slippers and some Boss aftershave to hopefully comfort whatever senses he has left.

Hugs to you all searching for the right gift.

My wife was given a small sheep/polar bear/dog (we can't quite decide what it is) which can be put in the microwave to warm up. It is now a constant companion to her.

What about a device that displays photos and put some nice photos in there I’m sure she will enjoy looking at them 🤗

At this stage I gave my Dad a thick, nice, rubbery, gel-type cushion, (was a honeycomb pattern, not a solid,) made to ease the discomfort that comes from sitting constantly, which can lead to (pressure point) sores on the skin like bed sores. The cushion is flexible and soft and about 4-5 inches thick. I highly recommend it. We also had another cushion for him that was made to prevent too much pressure on the spine and had a cut-out place for the spine when in a seated position. I didn't ever sit on either of these until he was no longer needing them, so I didn't realize the 2nd cushion was much too hard to be comfortable. It was more solid than the softer version and it wasn't nearly as thick. You'd need to look for these kinds of items at places that sell products for the infirm, medical supply type places. I'm very sorry your Mom has the detested disease.

Some great ideas - I’m going to use the balloon (but maybe for her birthday) idea and the neck pillow idea. What I did for mom this Christmas was to have some old family videotapes converted to CDs and I bought a small portable CD player. I plan to show one CD per visit (already showed her the first one and she loved it - it was over 2 hours long and I kept asking her if she wanted a break but she didn’t. She watched it all the way through and it was a nice way to spend 2 hours with her without her digressing into ruminations - so in away, a gift for me too!)

Hi Wardy01,

I bought my mom a foot massager as my gift for her this christmas and she really like it a lot, I can see it in her smile.

Hope you get a lot of ideas here for your mom's gift.

Advance Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Jonathan,

The foot massager is a great idea. I have just bought one from Amazon.

I'm probably too late and Christmas present has been bought. But maybe as a stocking filler some nice hand cream that you can massage into her hands. Merry Christmas Nanny857x
