C'mon now Jim

Are there any words in there at all?

You may not have an alien hand, but I seriously suspect that you and your kind were born with alien brains. ;) (Your kind being mathematicians, physicists and moggies)

Chuckles, keep publishing - it's brilliant.

Best to you

Kevin

Jim, it makes me laugh even thinking of the subject! I could barely make it through high school math (and never did calculus) so the thought of even trying this book is just a riot!! But I love being in such intellectual company ;-)

Good on you!

it starts with a discussion about the nature of scientific theory in particular quantum theory which you may like --sums up my general thoughts on the real creativity of math

Like i said before the so called math you get taught in school is like doing scales on the piano--necessary but not sufficient

doing real math is like playing Schostakovich-more than sufficient

Calculus in a nutshell:

**Developed by Isaac Newton in order to calculate (inter alia) the trajectories of the planets to compare with pre-existing measurements

**Differential calculus converts location into velocity (speed and direction)

**Integration allows calculaion of area swept out by a line connectng planet to sun (data already measured by Kepler)

**Key math insight is that these are inverse operations---doing one folowed by the other gets you back to where you started---makes integration much simpler to do

Oh Jim, - easy for YOU to say! LOL

Me, I'm going to practice my subtraction from 100 by 7s so I can ace the "mini-mental" test if ever the time comes 😜
