I did read the Savoy Book and just finished the Selfish Pig book by H. Marriot. I'd like to find something along the lines of training - showering, moving someone (lifting)and bathrooming details. How to and what not to do~ Thanks
Book recomendations for caregivers anyone? - PSP Association
Book recomendations for caregivers anyone?
I have found YouTube to be the best in explanations and demonstrations. In fact, great teaching.
I did NOT find the Savoy book helpful in any shape or form.
Good luck!
I too didn't find Last Dance at The Savoy' helpful, these people didn't live in the same world as the one we inhabited on our PSP journey. I also read You, Me and PSP which I found gushing and over sentimental. No other recommendations, sorry.

When I first contacted PSPA in 2013 my wife having been diagnosed with CBD I was sent a Carer's information pack. Full of brilliant advice and useful contacts. I still use it today. Do they not produce it anymore? Our local hospice has carer's days. They gave me a hand massage and then taught me how to give it to my wife. Very relaxing for both of us.
I learned most of my care giving from Larry’s physical therapist and occupational therapist. Plus reading online from google searches, YouTube videos and posts on this site.
I really liked The selfish pig, somebody lent it to me on their kindle, it really helped me when I felt guilty about not doing enough, that was before I found this forum which is even better as it's specifically for psp sufferers and carers. Although i did look for a book on coping with the physical side and couldn't find anything , could do with nurses training, fed up of having sore shoulders !
I did think about doing the first aid course with 'Les pompiers' (french fire brigade) as I think they teach you how to lift people properly. In the UK I presume it's still the Red cross. Could be worth a try.

Try YouTube.....................think of it as learning in modules. The verbal and visual, for me, you can't beat.
Will have to have another look, last time I did a search didn't find anything useful but maybe I used the wrong keywords, or could have been in french, can't remember, it was a while ago.
I went to YouTube and wrote in
1. Wheel chair to toilet seat transfer
2. patient lifting techniques
3. transfer techniques from chair to bed
All three brought excellent results. I think you need to write simple and clear requests.
Good luck
Have you tried looking for a Care Training Manual?
That's what I'm looking for!!!!! Got a title or author name for me?
Hi Alicia
Here are two
amazon.co.uk/Carers-Bible-A...
And
amazon.co.uk/Carers-Handboo...
With both if you click on the picture of the book you will be able to read a portion of each book and decide which.
Now I know where to go the get carers advice!

You,me and psp by Shelby Locke is great. Insiteful and moving. Plus all profits go to the pspa. You can order it from Amazon either in paperback or for your e-reader.
Thx, I had forgotten about that one🙂
