Wondering if anyone has had experience of keeping their loved ones hydrated when they aren’t keeping any fluids down.
Colin was fine this morning, had his porridge and coffee, then about 1/2 hour later wanted how laxido drink, which he had, shortly after the carers came, washed and changed him, resettled him in his bed, they left.
Then 10 mins later was very sick bringing all breakfast coffe and laxido drink up. Since then can’t hold down and fluids, they are literally shooting out of his mouth.
Rang doctor he said cannot treat him for dehydration or aspation pneumonia if that is what he finds, at home as Colin does not want to go to hospital, so he is going to ring me later to see how he is.
So how do I keep Colin hydrated anyone have any ideas on any of my situation.
Thank you all for being there
Love and hugs Helen xxx

If he is still vomiting it might well be aspiration pneumonia and he will have to go into hospital. The doctor is right about not being able to treat him at home. He will need liquid antibiotics, usually only for a couple of days or so. They won't want him taking up a bed?
I would add that you seem to be describing projectile vomiting... that occurs when there is a serious food infection or as an allergy response. As well as what Marie describes.
Water, more water and then more. Let the body flush itself out. Even if the water is vomited too. If you like add a meagre teaspoon of preferably sea salt per litre of water and a squeeze of lemon to keep the bodies electrolytes in some sort of balance.
Thank you both of you, doctor has been out and Didn’t really say much, slight crackle on one side and high temp, Colin has stopped vomiting now and is holding down a little water, very sleepy. Doctor has given me some antibiotics but not to be used unless needed, he will ring me in the morning to see how he is doing.
So I’m going to sleep on settee next to Colin, I’m a light sleeper so will hear if he is sick again. Trying to bring his temp down now he seems very hot.
Hi Helen119, Don't know what else to say other than what has already been said. It is an incidious illness, just know that there are people here who care for you and our loved ones. Hugs to you Marg Halliday
Yes Colin woke up next morning absolutely fine, I still think it could have been the porridge, laxido and dried apricots and then the carers cane and wash him so was moved around a lot, so it all mixed up and up it cane, well that’s what I think hapoened anyway, doctor has given me some antibiotics just in case he inhaled and vomit and caused an infection, so keeping an eye on him but seems fine so far.
