Some of you may remember I wrote some time ago about my sister visiting and her rather peculiar habits . If you remember when cooking she would slice a lemon in half and put the other half in the fridge and the when next cooking repeat the same process until by the end of the week I would have 4 or 5 half lemons residing in the fridge . Well she’s back and I have thwarted her , not a lemon in sight . But now it's washing up ! Last night although I say it myself , I made an especially tasty spaghetti bolognaise , my sister insisted on washing up ,no washing up liquid cold to lukewarm water and greasy plates put straight in the plate rack . Halfway through she abandonned the lot and wandered off .The next thing I know she is making a cup of tea , teaspoon in the sugar bowl , two spoonfuls ,( I ask you who has sugar in tea nowdays anyway ) and then stirrring and wet spoon back into sugar bowl grrrrrrrr! On top of that I know when she leaves I will find assorted cups of half drunk tea left in the most unlikely places , the loo , the wardrobe , the garden shed ,I will be discovering them for weeks .
Now I know I have been living on my own for a year now ,but I have created a comfortable order to my life , I can put my hand straight on my favourite cooking knife, surprise surprise it will be in my knife drawer , not after my sister has been here it wont . I know where my coffee cup is , its the only possible one to drink coffee from ,will I ever find it again after she has left . I like my things where I know they will be , I understand she is an artist and these things are of little importance to her . BUT THEY MATTER HUGELY TO ME . Gosh I expect I would be a pain in the butt to live with .

You made me laugh George I remember your post about the lemons, oh well you will miss her when she leaves, tell her you need her to find your favourite cup before she leaves, so funny, hard work, but I bet you enjoyed having her? So annoying when people move your stuff, oh well thank you for making me laugh. How you doing George? Xxxx Yvonne xxxxx
A pain for you trying to find everything now but your sister’s actions reminded me very much of my mum in the very early stages of Alzheimer’s. I hope it is just her artistic nature and she was the same when she was much younger.
I think I’d find it difficult living with anyone else now. Colin and I knew each other’s funny little ways. I don’t think I can be bothered to learn anyone else’s........and I don’t think they’d put up with mine.
On the one hand I can totally relate, as I am an "order" nerd myself. And one has to wonder how two such different siblings could come from one set of parents! (Makes me think of Hyacinth Bucket and her sister Daisy... Ever watch that show?)
On the other hand, how could you come up with such an amusing post if she were just like you?? Hugs and a big wink
Hi Ann, my daughter calls me Mrs Bucket, especially when I make some sandwiches, cut them into quarters and serve up on a nice platter (she's the 2 slices of doorstep thick bread, filled, then cut in half type) During our banter, I too, like Hyacinth, insist she calls me Bouquet, always makes us chuckle. I don't think I've managed to terrify the postman yet. Amusingly, when you look around family and friends there's always a Hyacinth, Daisy and Onslow in the mix somewhere. I have a box set of the series and on a miserable winter's afternoon will often watch a few of the episodes. My favourite has to be when Onslow and Daisy won a holiday on the QE2 completely unaware that Hyacinth and Richard were also booked on the same trip. Priceless - love it!! HilsandR
Our PBS station always ran the Brit comedies and Garth just loved them so much..If I ever commented while he was driving (years ago when he could still drive..) he'd say "minding the road Hyacinth.."
Nice to know you've still following us , was only thinking about you this evening, what escapades have you been getting into lately? Nothing too dangerous I hope....Brenda xxx
Well I did spend a lot of yesterday afternoon up a ladder pulling down virginiacreeper which was invading the roof . I suppose being 30 odd feet up after a hip operation is not the most sensible thing in the world to do but then live dangerously I say .🙃
LOL I take sugar in my tea!!!! It's terrible when we get old we get set in our ways don't we???? My sister annoys the shit out of me too. She is the older sister so thinks whatever she thinks says is the only truth!!!! GRRRRRRR!
Sounds bit like my daughter who back home after 3 years away. Then she has the cheek to tell me off for leaving cupboards open in the kitchen! My lovely daughter is definitely hard work xx
I am doing ok good to hear from you . At the moment I am eyeing up my neighbours motorised skateboard - it does 28mph at a push , what do you think , should I give it a go ? Beats the mobility thingy I had last year when I broke my leg . Just don’t tell my daughter 😇
Love the post, George, and I do sympathize! I have a bunch of sisters and fear that I am often the annoying one, although we all generally get along pretty well. There is one a bit like yours: the "helping" that leaves the counter looking like a blender blew up all over it, the stashes of discarded oddments left behind for me to discover and clean up. I was supposed to learn patience those last few years. Didn't happen.
This chain of messages is so, so great! I think I will save them all to have a laugh when I’m feeling low. Love Mrs Bucket and family, and I’m the eldest of three girls, always being ‘the example’. Thank you George for the inspiration 😘
Amusing post as usual George, nothing wrong with a batty artistic sister until they come to stay with you. I have three sisters, all who are pretty normal and easy to live with, it's the brothers-in- laws that wind me up and so I encourage my sisters to visit alone if at all possible! I see you are still performing dangerous feats George, just be careful won't you! Hope you are enjoying the fine weather we are having, guess you are luckybenough to enjoy sea breezes down on the coast, its stifling here but the first rain for weeks this morning. Take care and keep posting to keep us all amused.
