Hi wheelrace, welcome to this caring forum!

My husband had CBS and diabetes. He was treated with Metformin.

Only time we had problems was when he was given short-term steroid treatment, and we were then very closely monitored!

My husband was not badly affected by diabetes. His medication was stopped as his food intake reduced and we monitored his blood sugar levels, just to make sure they were not going sky high. They didn't.

He also stopped BP meds as my love had very low BP on standing and was then at risk of falling.

We both found it scary that doctors wanted to remove all his meds during his last few months. If you have concerns, ask him about his reasons for removing them. Our doctor told us he was more concerned of result of over medicating, than not medicating.

You can keep a check on blood sugar and BP readings by manual means, and if not happy, report back to doctor.

Stay in touch. Will be thinking of you both.

Hugs

Some medications can cause diarrhoea so check the information. My husband had diarrhoea many times a day for months as well as PSP ( a very messy nightmare😱) and was on steroids for a year but that was ulcerative colitis. If it continues perhaps you should notify the GP as there may be something else going on and he may give him something to help stop it.

Keep on laughing, it definitely helped me get through.

My mom has had diarrhea for nearly 3 yrs , she takes a generic over the counter anti diarrhea pill every day to control it, her dr said it was safe and if she doesn't take it, it's not good!!

My late wife besides fighting PSP she had the fight against diabetes and high Bp along with the other pain as mentioned. I kept a log of all the daily recorded readings . When we had our visit to the Neurological team I presented my log expressing my concern as there were too many troughs and peaks. The answer I got was not really any advice but a very encouraging reply. The Specialist Nurse said you doing great and the mere fact that I am monitoring and trying to address those issues. She acknowledged the fact the fight against PSP is difficult enough without the fight against the other. She just said stay on the meds as prescribed by the GP. You doing the right thing by trying to keep the other under control don't worry too much about it, unless the spikes are increasing. Every GP visit ,or visit to the Neurological team, or other medical care place the file went with. Preparation for each visit with the evidence gathered made the consultation easier.

Hi Wheelrace

Welcome to the forum.

I'm with the posts above.

I wonder if coming off the diabetic meds. upset his system a little?

However this is a good straight forward read.

Best to you both

Welcome.

My husband had diarrhea . Noone seemed to be able to do anything to stop it and I controlled it with Immodium as needed. Most people with PSP seem to have huge problems with constipation so I think it may be the better option - although I certainly didn't see it as an easy option !!!

Hi Mum has CBD and diabetes and is on metformin she does have diarrhoea regularly but I think it is down to a combination of constipation heighten by not wanting or not able to go. After reading another post recently someone said people with these incapacities loose ability to push and it has got me thinking more that this lack in ability to push could cause diarrhoea if there is a build up . Can’t believe I am talking about toilet issues but necessary to help us understand the issues our loved ones face x x

Talked about toilet issues in great detail and with lots of humour over the years. Its the only way to survive !!!!

You are right. It is an inability to push that then causes other problems. My husband was like that.
