I fear Dad’s battle is almost over

Dad has deteriorated vary badly over the past few days. He is emaciated, not able to swallow meds or thickened fluids much (300mls in last 24 hours). Unable to pass water for the last few days and managing to swallow very little puréed food. He is now in bed in the nursing home and quite agitated and unable to keep still, he moves so much that he was in danger of sliding off the reclining chair he was in, so he’s had to be put into bed for his own comfort and safety. I feel he hasn’t got long left now and it must be traumatic for him to experience and definitely for us to witness.

This is the hardest thing we have ever had to do. JR61 x

So sorry to hear this.

Have heard of others who are very restless just before the end. Wonder if it is a realization and an attempt to fight it.

Dear JR: I can relate to your feeling that its the hardest thing you've ever had to do. What a heartsore time for you. I hope you can find some some moments of connection with your Dad as you wait with him during what sounds like his final battle.

I feel your pain, my dad is at the same stage, in hospice. I've just left there and prayed for him to go quickly. Watching him like this is awful. Why do they have to suffer for so long? He's not agitated, he's motionless, but very chesty, and his face is fixed in a grimace. I can't bear it. My thoughts are with you and your family x
