Disposable bed pads saved my sanity. I layered them over a washable one and in general didn't have to do so much laundry. I also found waterproof panties at the pharmacy, although these were not entirely helpful, but might be worth a try. You might also consider whether you could bear to do a straight catherization at bed time. (It's not installed, just a thin tube inserted then removed after the bladder is empty.) Something to discuss with her doctor, perhaps. The incontinence problem is such a major concern. Before I became a caregiver I had no idea at all of how difficult it is to manage. Best wishes. Ec

I also used disposable bed pads. Took a tip from Heady and bought pet pads in bulk. Chris used to take his pants and convene off. Drove me mad. I'm afraid it only improved when he became too ill to do it.

Now he has the convene and a wrap round disposable. Carers see to it all. I rarely have more than one sheet to wash. [ fingers crossed !! ]

Bar wearing boxing gloves, which i know several of us threatened our husbands with! I don't know. I gave up and asked for Steve to be catheterised, which saved my sanity and made him a lot more comfortable. No more wet beds and the strong likelihood of sores. Of course there is the risk of UTI's, but then so does being constantly wet.

My heart goes out to you, this is a very tough time.

Sending big hug and much love

What type of pads does she wear, maybe a different type might help reduce the constant removal?

I use disposable inco sheets too on the bed when Mum is in a phase of saving up all the wee during the day to then let it go at night.

Catheter, sorry to be blunt , the unpredictability and discomfort of urinary incontinence both for you and mum is one more nightmare you can do without.

There are pros and cons but things ain't gonna get better , make life as pleasant and bearable for you all as much as you can.

Rog now sleeps well, it has made caring for him so much easier also i have managed to keep his skin intact ,

Men do have prostate problems so our decision was kind of made for us as surgery was out of the question.

For my hubby we have pull ups, I was worried at first he would refuse them but he feels much safer with them on and disposable bed pads in case of leaks. He also takes a diuretic in the morning (since his heart attack 5 years ago) which means no build up for night time and we also tried Toviaz (don't know if the same name in english) for a month which he took before his evening meal and that stopped him urinating too much during the night. I was worried about that causing kidney problems so stopped after a month but if it gets bad again we will just try using it for a few days as it seemed to regulate things.

Hope you find a solution as it's hell having to wash the sheets all the time.
