Hello all. Just a couple of questions if I may. B. came home from hospital, after having had pneumonia and a UTI . He then got a chest infection and another UTI. He keeps seeing what he calls lots of lace, which seems to disturb his vision, and he tries to push it away, rather like drawing a curtain back. We had this before, but it stopped. Has anyone experience of this? It's worrying because he part stands to draw it back so there is a fall risk. Luckily, so far, I have managed to stop him from falling.
B.. sometimes falls slightly to one side, mouth droops to one side and he is apparently unconscious. It only lasts for a few minutes. In 2003, he had a TIA. I wonder if these are the same? Any advice would be appreciated. Rx

Chat to your GP about both symptoms. The Lace,I would suggest is to do with his infections. The falling and being unconscious, needs the doctor to help you.
Incidentally, The powers that be have decided that B has no health needs that cannot be dealt with by GPs and D. Nurses, so they have withdrawn their shared funding offer. Their reason is that I am doing, medications, peg feeds, observations etc. so there are no needs. I have told them that due to my health issues, I am withdrawing my services. .....I cried and broke out in what the GP called "Stress Eczema" afterwards. Rx
Haven't they got to assess the health need as need, regardless of whether that need is being met?? I'm sure I've read that recently, as we're just embarking on our funding application journey. My mom does the same, yet all of those things were identified as needs. This doesn't sound right. How stressful for you. Can you get any support, is there someone who can challenge them on this for you if you don't feel up to it?
It may not be related to PSP. My mother has developed macular degeneration and sees a screen at times in front of her field of vision. It's intermittent and sometimes is colorful. My aunt had a detached retina and that caused similar effects. A fall can cause a detached retina.
Thank you easterncedar. He is going to the hospital for a check on a black patch in his eye, so maybe it is macular degeneration. It's Helpful to know about your experiences. Cheers, Rx
The leaning and dropping are definitely signs of a stroke but also PSP. My dad has total left sided weakness similar to what a stroke patient would have but they ran tests and he's had no stroke. His neurologist did say it was common in PSP. I would definitely talk to your doctor to determine what's causing it.
My husband is a Stroke Consultant. I've showed him your post and he doesn't think it looks like a TIA, however would need to be assessed properly before making a decision. Could be a number of things like low blood pressure or seizures. Sorry can't be of more help.
Thanks. He's had this before, about eight months ago. He has an appointment shortly, I am hoping to clarify if PSP has anything to do with the phenomena before he goes... Rx
What you're describing as TIAs sounds very similar to the focal seizures my husband has experienced. No shaking and they usually lasted just a few minutes. With one he fell and broke two ribs. Thankfully seizure meds have them under control.
