Very sorry for you, your father, and the rest of your family. It's a hard road, but not one we want to end. Sending wishes for a peaceful passing and what comfort there can be in this grievous time. love and peace, ec

Thankyou. It feels very strange. I'm not panicked and sobbing like I expected which feels wrong. Maybe 12 years of watching him suffer has toughened me up? Love to everyone going through this horrible experience.xxx

The sobbing comes later. Be strong for now. Love, ec

We're in the same position right now - dad is in hospital with kidney failure, but is due to be discharged next week. He can't be far from the end. We're terrified! Sending positive thoughts your way x

Hi I would be terrified as well. Why are they sending sick people home??? Home to die???

Sorry to hear your going through the same thing. It's awful. He doesn't seem in pain which is something I couldn't cope with. Sending lots of love to you.xx

The thought of him being in pain is something I really can't deal with, especially if we have to cope at home. My dad's kidney function was FIVE when he was admitted (anything under 15 is kidney failure) and now, ten days later , they're going to send him home. I was almost praying for the end whilst he was in hospital, to end his suffering, and not to see it drag on like this. My dad has a really high pain threshold and it's a guessing game with him, he won't say if he feels ill. Fear of the unknown is huge right now. But we'll find a way to cope. Lots of love to you all too x

Our home hospice service was really focused on keeping my love as free of pain as possible. The nurse had me maintain a level of medication such that I didn't have to rely my guessing about his pain level, as he was also not inclined to express discomfort. I hope you get something like that help.

Thank you so much for this - I'll call them and see if it's an option for us. He used to visit for a day fortnightly, and they were absolutely amazing. I had no idea they might do home visits!

Here hospice is a separate agency associated in some cases with a hospital, or it may be part of an independent home care agency. They provide end of life care in a full spectrum of palliative services. Our was from the hospital. Covered by insurance.

I don't understand a hospital discharging a terminally ill patient without providing a plan for care.
