Wet Rooms
So sorry - I didn't think to put it in the "search"
hahaha you Americans think you know everything....hahaha
Actually this American will try to help you understand what the UKers get when their loved one is sick......for one thing their country provides them with many things through CHC....everyone gets it I think....like everything else, it's good and bad, but for the most part it is GOOD! For instance, a wet room which I think they provide, is the the converting of a large room such as a garage, into a room like I'm thinking, a gym shower... one can take the wheelchaired person and give them a good scrub without them having to vacate the vehicle. There may be a toilet built suitable to the patients needs as well.....
Well my UK friends please tell me how close or far off I am.....
where are you in the states? NW Arkansas here

Not sure i would want to exit to converted garage for a shower, AVB!! Mine is several metres from my door. Bit draughty in winter! Even ours
Gave me a giggle though! And visions of a carwash!
Hope you are doing OK! Sun's shining here!

Lol- Detroitish!!! And Wow - sounds like Where we may be headed with the health care if we don't frack ourselves to death first!!!!!😕Very beginning has mixed ' other beach places' their usual intro, I guess, but only residents would recognize any photos that were'nt here,,lol
Not sure exactly what you are saying except to say that my uncle in law made a shower room (wet room)...BEAUTIFUL. it was separate from the house had one inch square tile ....golds and oranges ...turquoise... It was in Florida And so lovely....we were there not peak tourist time but the dolphins were a plenty ......and you could easily shower one in a wheelchair....when needed...That's the room they'll show ya...that's not all that goes on...and here in the US Social Security Disability did not afford us this room.

My husband will be getting sponge baths at the kitchen sink!!!!!!!!!! Lol - my daughter had a baby in her living room and my husband ran a hose from the basement through the vent system so she could fill a kiddie pool to ease the labor pains LOL - I'm picturing my large husband in a kiddie pool on the kitchen floor- omgosh - too much coffee today!!!! We do not have $$$ nor a place for a wet room. I'll figure something out --- tomorrow😴Good night ladies~
OMG your husband was quite....imaginative...and you guys don't seem to depend on the system to get you where you need to be....I believe you will do just fine.....I gave dad a shower in a regular bathtub the only thing I changed there were grab bars and a removable shower head so I could wash him all over....(available at Walmart etc) within a year or, so I got him a shower chair.... a God send!!! Still before hospice, I got as wet as he ....even with a shower curtain...haha
My reply ends at the smiley face - not sure where the rest of the comment came from!?!?
Your post made me smile AVB, and your replies. It was my garage that was converted but it is attached to the house. C had CHC but I had to pay for the conversion myself and unfortunately, not everyone gets CHC. It's a post code lottery. We got it very easily, others have to appeal many time and even then don't get it. Very unfair. The NHS wouldn't fund my wet room conversion but did offer to put a lift in my lounge up to the bedroom. I don't live in a huge house so it would have taken up a lot of room and it wouldn't have helped as C couldn't get into our one small bathroom in a wheelchair. The wet room was a Godsend and the other room also made during the conversion as the garage was quite big, now houses my 5 guinea pigs!
Keep smiling AVB
Lots of love

Here in NZ, a wetroom is the toilet/shower room arrangement you expect in a hospital to allow someone in a wheelchair to be transfered to toilet, or whelled over on a commode. And a walk/wheelin shower space big enough to fit shower chair and up to 2 carers to wash patient all over without having to stand him up.
If you have a conversion of your home bathroom it may have to conform to hospital standards, ie. window glass needs to be unbreakable and grab rails in place. Not always a simple alteration.
So wide door entry, skidproof floor, easily hosed down, water does not get out.
Needs to be quite a large space! I looked into this for my husband but decided our space was likly to be too small. Besides, paperwork slowed process up so much it would not be available in time - like the stair rail!

My dad has a wet room installed. A disabled friendly one with a chair, grab rails and a nonslip floor. I can post a photo later if you wish?
a picture would be good, i do have 2 gab bars one permanent and the other you can remove it and put it any where. i do have a chair for the tub but if any one is getting one i recommend you get the one with the back. how is your vanity look like and if anyone an easy way to get up off the toilet. That would be good i now have my hamper and a chair which i know is unsafe. My son decided to rip apart my bathroom and it still is in mess, any help would be appreciated.
thanks
I've posted pics on a new post...hope you find it x

Hi Alicia. UK here. My friend knocked toilet and bathroom into one and put a very large disabled shower In for ger. He has a bathchair at top of stairs/chair lift and that then wheels into shower where he can be washed including all the nether regions from underneath. Got a picture in my mind lol. We have half doors and a curtain. Carer doesnt get wet so all is well.
Good luck k with whatever umyou go with. Marie
Just to make it clear here in UK, at least in my experience, CHC (if you get it) does not pay for wet rooms etc.. It is for nursing care for someone who has a primary health need and is NHS funded. Home adaptations are subject to means testing by Social Services and may be partly funded if you meet the very strict criteria regarding both savings and income. Other equipment such as hoists, hospital beds etc. should be provided by the occupational therapy team.
