Continuing Health care

Hi folks, I would be obliged for a bit of information if possible. If ones social care package is completely funded by social services is there any advantage in applying for continuing health care? or is it mostly used by people who are self funding?

Hi edgie

We was on Adult Social Care funding and that was for carers x2 four times a day sit in twice a week for 4 hrs a time and telecare monitor we had to pay 90 per month towards it then we are now on CHC and that is nhs funded and we don't pay anything now and that one is not means tested

Hope this helps

We had to pay a proportion of cost when adult services provided care, CHC now funds Rog's care , but the added advantage is they have funded equipment and my respite.

Depends I think if you have the energy to start the process! Chat to your social worker.

You will be able to afford a fuller package of care with CHC funding if you qualify .Well worth going for but be prepared for a battle ..

Hi edgie

I've just popped over here. I missed this thread.

CHC isn't means tested as folk here have said and it pays for all care and needs.

If you are at the stage where you are trying to manage risks (for example) and are doing 24/7 care (for example) or managing meds. (for example) then ask your GP for a referral for CHC. They will come out and do a simple checklist to see whether you are eligible for a full assessment. If you have a community matron or a hospice involved you could ask them their opinion.

There is no harm in testing the water on this and it is worth a lot of money.

If you do go ahead do come back to the forum and folk here will advise you on how to prepare for the Checklist assessment. If you want. It's quite easy and just needs a little thought and a pen and paper to make a few notes.

Best to you

Kevin
