Would anybody be able to offer any advice/experience regarding employing a private carer or personal assistant and any funding streams available to those with PSP? We are in Scotland.
Dad was recently assessed by social work and has a morning visit by carers in place through the council. We also require an evening visit but there is no provision for that available. Even with just the morning service however, it is not working out for a number of reasons but mainly the lack of consistency of carers and all the challenges that brings.
I'd really welcome any information/suggestions with regard to employing someone privately and more importantly how to go about this and fund it if possible.
Thanks xx

I think you need to talk to gp and get a social worker involved again for your care needs for your dad .keep nagging them that you need this help and if not happy with social worker tell them you want somebody else on the case
It might not be much good for you but that's how I went through it
do not accept this no provision nonsense, get straight back on to social services and bang on about safeguarding, not sure if the system is different north of the border, but your Scottish legislation in most things generally seems to be better than ours.
Hi there. We also live in Scotland and went down the Self-Direct Support route. The Scottish Government put this in place and you should have no trouble accessing it. Speak to your Social Worker about it. She will assess his needs and those of the main carer and allocate hours accordingly. You will then open a new bank account into which a quarterly sum of money will be put. Just now it is £13 per hour. It is then up to you whether you employ a Personal Assistant ( though this involves a lot of administration), employ a private Agency or go with the Local Authority, or you can do a mixture of those. I employ a private Agency and although it is a bit more expensive, meaning we top up the hourly rate, it has worked out well. Sorry for the long explanation. It is actually a lot more simple than it sounds. Good luck.
Thanks for all your responses. I am in the process of working through it and I promise I will report back on my findings soon, things looking very positive so far though x
