Chest infections

Hello all,

My Dad was admitted to hospital with another (he's had a few) chest infection last week. He is due to go home tomorrow. I know he's prone to them due to the silent aspiration he suffers from but just wondering if any of you are familiar with this too?

My husband had his first chest infection a couple of weeks ago, I did have to call the doctor out but just one course of antibiotics did the trick, thank goodness!

I see, my dad seems to go down hill in an instance & it hits him hard so he always gets taken into hospital for IV anti b's.

I am sorry to hear about your dad and to be honest I was really worried about my husband's infection, turning into pneumonia. I was thinking about what I would need to take to hospital, if the doctor said that he may have to go in!

I think we were lucky this time!

You take care

Chest infection, or pneumonia, is very very common, to the point of being nearly universal, among PSP patients. Along with falls, pneumonia is one of the 2 leading causes of death with PSP. With many people it becomes a recurrent issue until the antibiotics don't work or the patient just tires out. I have decided that my sweetheart is at the point that if he gets pneumonia again we won't treat it, although he has had it only once a year ago. He has a great immune system.

Thankyou for your reply, my dad has had 3 since just before Christmas . He has so far recovered really well but I realise it won't always be so.
