i have never heard of Sinemet having that effect. It usually doesn't do anything dramatic, as far as I know, though everyone reacts differently to medication. Maybe it is flu!

I always read the side effects of drugs my husband has used or is using so I know what to look out for. Sinemet has many possible side effects, nausea, headaches etc so he may be effected by the medication. If it continues, talk to the GP as he may be getting flu or another illness. The side effects that concerned me most were compulsion to gamble and engage in sexual behaviour. Fortunately he never had these two.

Sinemet appeared to improve his speech but not for long so the neurologist told the GP to stop prescribing it as long term side effects are not good.

It's so good when you find something that works. Long may it do so.

They do seem to affect some people.

My man was first diagnosed with Parkinsons (PD). Sometimes they work well.

My man was quite put out by them - very dizzy and swimmy head and very queasy, not enjoying food at all. So yes, similar to flu like symptoms. When he stopped taking them it stopped. When started again they resumed. He was then put on madopar and lowest dose, and very slowly increased. As madopar dosage was increased this seemed to mess with his blood pressure, dropping it, tho this just may have been coincidental.

He was later diagnosed with CBD, which we felt was more correct, and the Parkinson's drugs don't seem to have as positive effect with CBD. However gerontologist still insisted he had PD!

Suggest you get back to doctor and report side effects and see if he will suggest something else.

Seems like a kick in the guts rather than a potential improvement! We were in agreement it did not make life better - not the sort of effect you want when the chips are already down!

The quicker you get a change in meds, in my experience, life could improve at least a bit!

Goodluck!

Hugs

Jen

My husband has been on sinemet since diagnosed in Nov. 2013.

Like nannaB I was concerned by the same possible side effects but he had none. I'm not convinced they help him but will ask the neurologist when we see him in Nov. His speech is deteriorating now.

My GP is good at not assuming everything he has is PSP. He may have a chill.

Hi - please be very careful with the usage and dosage of Sinemet - my dad was on a higher dose and it gave him terrible leg cramps - the doctor stopped it and he became completely vegetative - he then resumed it, on a low dosage (after recommendation from another neuro) and my dad started eating/drinking/communicating again - so please be careful - it has a major effect in some patients (in others it doesn't, based on what I've read on forums)

Just a query. Has he had the flu vaccine for this year? Had mine and felt flu like symptoms for a week.

M was on sinemet for 3 yr then Madopar for last 2. Makes M more responsive less apathetic but this now wearing off tried weaning her off but lost whatever interest in her surroundings she had so returned to her normal dose.

I've been on Siminet for 3 years now. The movement disorders specialist started me on a lower dose and then increased it incrementally. I've haven't had any negative side effects. No compulsion to gamble and certainly no sexual behaviours... I know that for certain lol. As in most cases with PSP, it works for some and not with others.
