I was diagnosed with CBD 6 years ago after symptoms for a few years . My left side is affected but now I’m losing dexterity in my right hand . Has anyone ever heard of CBD in both sides of the body . My consultant is lost

Dear MariawattersReading your profile it reminds me so much of my husband Alan's journey. Yes CBD can affect both sides. It started on Alan's right and then his left. He is in an advanced stage now. It's fantastic that you're holding down such a demanding and responsible job. My very best wishes. Sheila

My mother did. She was affected in the left side first and it remained predominantly affected. It was about 5 or 6 years after her left side symptoms first appeared that she started to have problems on both sides. (But her right side was never as severely affected as the left.)

In reading various medical journals and talking with neurologist, I understand that eventually both sides will be affected and the patient will become bedridden. My husband is very close to becoming so. His right side might as well be paralyzed and his left side, while somewhat functioning, is very slow to respond. This is a heartbreaking and slow moving disease. My husband was diagnosed almost 4 years ago but his symptoms began about 6-7 years ago. It took us two years to finally get a correct diagnosis. A great place to get some excellent information on CBD and other rare diseases is the National Organization for Rare Disorders, or NORD. They have an incredible data base with resources for family members, caregivers and the victims of rare diseases. Hope this helps. May God be with you on this journey. He is the only thing that sustains me as I take care of my husband.

Thank you so much . I’mterrified what is ahead of me but more so for my family . I’m

Only 60 and hoped to enjoy a long heathy and happy life but that wasn’t Gods plan …. Bless you looking after your husband I’m sure it wasn’t your plan also ❤️

Do not be terrified but see the joy in each day. There will be more than you know. I believe there is a reason for everything and how you handle this insidious disease may be how you will help others see the joy of God’s love in you. He is always with you and your family. Hug them and tell them you love them. Tell them ahead of time to be prepared to be patient. It is my honor to take care of my husband and while it is exhausting and frustrating, it is also joyful and rewarding. May God’s strength lift you and His love sustain you.

Thank you for replying. Do you mind telling me when you were first diagnosed? How do you feel most days . Do you find fatigue a problem?

Fatigue is becoming more of an issue.First signs were an unstable feeling in my left knee/leg (Dec, 2016).

Procrastinated till early 2019 before seeing my knee Dr. He was savvy enough to send me to a neurologist. 2 Drs later I was diagnosed with CBD (June, 2019).

I still work full time as a mechanic who uses a walker (24 days till retirement!).

It’s so bad yet we can still laugh . I think I’m in denial sometimes but then what’s the alternative? Cry ! I prefer a good chuckle 🤭
