My brother and his wife are staying with us at the moment and live in the midlands miles from the see. It was a lovely day yesterday so took a trip to Hastings. This picture was taken on the pier. It has a structure on it that, from a distance, looks like a concrete gun inplacement but close to it is worth seeing. It's built from wood. There is a lift, just big enough for a wheelchair and carer so we could all go to the cafe at the top. We had a lovely day and thanks Debbieann for reminding me Hastings is still there.

Nanna, what a beautiful photo! I have to smile because you two are color coordinated. Somehow whenever we go out we are as well. Maybe has something to do with the fact that we dress them:). I love all the blues with the blue background! And I am so glad you had a wonderful day. Getting away from the dreary day to day does somehow make everything feel much better doesn't it? Love his lid as well!
You look as if you are having a lovely day in sunny Hastings, must take Ben to see the newly renovated pier. There is something about being by the sea, feeds your soul I always think. Take care and many more happy days out.
Lovely photo NannaB. Nice to put a face to the name. Colin looks as if he is enjoying the change of scenery. Hopefully, when I use to getting S in and out of our box on wheels, we will start doing more things. Not doing TOOOOOO badly!!!!
Yes, learning that fact. It's not hard, physically, just fiddly! Although S in a very good place at the moment, so is working the electric button to winch himself up into the car! Loving every single second of being in control of something!!!
Glad to know that you are getting used to your new 'box on wheels', Heady. Yours sounds a bit more mod than ours. We don't have a winch.......sounds good!....still, I am used to ours (without winch) and what I've never had, I don't miss..........I suppose!!
Lovely photo, Nanns B. So glad that you had a good day. Let's hope you have many more.
B is having some odd behaviour lately, he keeps going to the toilet to do a stand up wee, when he has been wearing a convene for about 18 months. I have to remind him of this. He has also asked twice, "when are we going home?" ,when we are home. Bathed in perspiration but complains of cold. Temperature is fine, urine, a good colour. Have you experienced anything similar?
High Robbo, c used to take the convene off to go to wee but didn't have one until he was unable to walk so never got to the toilet. He did say a few strange things. He was convinced we had another room he called the blue room and I had to take him all round the house to try and convince him we didn't have one. A bedroom does have some blue in it but he said it was the wrong room. We did many tours of the house.
He is frequently sweaty and I gave to change his sheets and pillow cases daily as they are drenched. The GP said it was because his brain won't let him regulate his temperature. He can't tell me if he feels hot inside.
Thank you for that. It is reasurring to know that this happens to others too. Hope you have a good weekend too. We have just had a massive downpour of rain, so the garden looks like a jungle, I think the rain has made it grow amazingly quickly. Oh well, out with the shears! X
That is so odd. My guy went through a week or ten days earlier this year when he ALSO was convinced our home had a room it didn't, and I had to take him round to prove it. I do wonder what that was all about. I assumed he kept having the same dream over and over and couldn't shake it when he woke up. It was so hard to convince him that things weren't as he imagined, and never had been. It finally passed and hasn't recurred.
What a lovely picture, it's nice to see who we are chatting with!
I had to smile at what goldcap said, yes we do choose all their clothes and are much better at colour coordination! ( Sorry to any men on this site, I dread to think what I'd be wearing if Keith was dressing me, but we won't go there!)
What a great picture! So nice to see you after all this time. It looks like you had a lovely day. My sweetie and I went to the Botanical Gardens on the coast last week, and so enjoyed the sunshine and sea air. somehow it cheered us both right up. I hope it did the same for you on the other side of all that water. Love, Ec
Hi Easterncedar, it certainly cheered me up. C couldn't tell me if it did him but he did "laugh" when he saw a sea gull on the roof of the car next to ours.
It was a lovely day yesterday and you both look so happy. It is also very nice to be able to put faces to names and thanks for the reminder that there can be many happy times still.
A visit to Hastings is a must and I'll arrange someone to help me get Bugs up the stairs to Maggies Café. It's among the net huts in the Old Town and her favourite fish & chips.
We parked at Rock o Nore near the fish market and I bought some fish to take home but I've never been to Maggies Cafe. I hope you get there and manage to get Bugs up the stairs. Now Debbieann reminded me how we used to go to Hastings regularly , I'm going to do it more often.
Lovely photo of you both, nice to see a pier still in use not a rotting relic. Glad you are getting out with Colin. He seems to be enjoying himself. Hope the weather holds so you can do some more expeditions.
Yes Tim, I hope the weather holds this weekend especially with so many Queen's birthday celebrations happening. This afternoon I am supposed to be playing the ukulele for 45 minutes with the U3A group at the village recreation park. Colin is coming with me but if it rains I'll have to bring him home. I can't have him sitting in a wheelchair getting wet. The rec is at the end of our road so only a few minutes away. Tomorrow I'm playing at the church party but if it rains then, instead of on the lawn outside, we will be in the church.
Yes, I don't know why we stopped going. When C could speak he always wanted to go to Bexhill. It's good there but there is much more to see in Hastings isn't there?
Yes much more to see in Hastings, we're there again for a few days, we like Bexhill as well, and I thought it was very wheelchair friendly when we went there a couple of weeks ago!
Hello Deb how lovely to put the faces to the written word . I think
We all have a picture in our minds of what someone looks like .
I am not normally an envious person but I would love to be able to have a few hours like that outside with John . He hasn't been outside for at least three years now .
That's great you can manage colin sitting in a wheelchair . I sometimes hoist John into his to see how he would be but he goes into a ball and he must feel so unsafe .
I do change him from bed to chair quite often just for a change of position .
He would feel so disorientated now if he was out in the fresh air I think . I have had to keep the doors open such a lot with this lovely weather and the heat but he soon asks me to close it .
Their ability to control their body heat or cold is so different now John use to be great he would not be worried whether too hot or too cold . So different now ,.
I am unable to leave John long enough to go anywhere very far myself . I seem to be the only one who understands how to hoist him properly into chair or bed , I am always havinb to go behind them to make him comfortable .
I need another me lol ..
Keep doing what you are doing what you are doing Deb , doesn't take a great deal now to keep us happy does it .
John does appear to be listening to the rugby on the radio at the moment which is great to see. At least I think he is ..
Hi Cabbagecottage, it is becoming very difficult for me to get C out as my back doesn't like it but I'll keep doing it as long as I can. I can quite understand what you say. C curls up sometimes but I've got shoulder straps on his chair and it does recline so I can change his position if we are out for longer than a couple of hours. It was so much easier having my brother and his wife to help me but they have just left so we are on our own again. Our going out also depends on whether his bowels have been opened as well. As he goes about every 5 days now, I fit everything in between bowel movements which is a bit restricting but hey ho! We must do what we must do.
Beautiful pic! And nicely dressed! I find dressing myself in similar color-coordinated clothes that I've dressed my wife in, unless I start her out in something pink. I won't go that far.
Ha ha! I was reading Pat's response to my post to Colin and said to him, " I can't imagine what you'd put me in if you were dressing me". He made his strange laughing noise as I think he was imagining getting me dressed. His colour sense was not the greatest.
