George has lost so much weight, it is really uncomfortable for him sitting on his chair, he has got a pressure cushion, but not doing any good, can anyone recommend one for him,. DN has ordered one, still waiting for it to come, just want to get him something that will ease his bottom.  Yvonne xxxx

We have had various cushions but I've found the best thing to do is not let C sit all day.  He spends half the day in his chair or wheelchair and half in bed.

Margaret is now spending a lot of time in her wheelchair in the home, I have been instructed on safety grounds not to move her (which I tend to ignore) she has started getting discomfort in her legs and backside I think from sitting too much.  If I was was not there I think they would have her in bed more.  I have asked our Physio for massage treatment for M to try and alleviate pain in legs and also in her neck as she is now seems to have no strength to hold her head up which in turn is folding her forward.

I agree with NannaB movement even of position helps but also getting the correct cushion can make a difference.  Your DN and wheelchair service can get hold of different types of cushions which can be electrically mobile to move the pressure or contoured for comfort or firmer padding but with a surface that does not ruck up.

Good luck with getting the new cushion soon and hope it is successful.  Tim

I buy egg crate contoured mattress cushioning in the bedding department at Walmart and cut to size for my dad's stand assist recliner. We use 2 layers of that covered by 2 washable bed pads. I also just bought some Dycem netting, very sticky material, and put that on top of the bed pads to try keep him from sliding down in the chair. We use more cushions to try to keep him from leaning right or left. We try to alter the position of the recliner periodically and alternate between the recliner and his well padded reclining wheelchair. The wheelchair has a thick donut hole cushion, but it's a bit on the hard side. I just bought another gel donut cushion for his recliner, but it was too thick and scary for him to be perched on top of. Let us know if you find a good solution. Take care.

Dear Yvonneandgeorge,

My husband has difficulty a well and has a cushion but it hasn't helped.  The PA mentioned a riser which we are having built.  This will make it easier to get in and out and help ease the pain.  We have sheepskin pad as well.

I'll send more info after we test the riser.  Thinking about you and understand.  Charles has lost 7 lbs in one month.  Only ice cream keeps his weight up.
