Baclofen: Has anybody got news or veiws on... - PSP Association
Baclofen
Jane, my wife Roisin was prescribed Baclofen about a year before she died - to ease the rigidity in her arms. It was difficult to judge its effectiveness because we had no idea how the "spasticity" problem would have been without it. We also did arm exercises every morning and evening. Two months before Roisin's death when it was clear that her rigidity was increasing, her neurologist suggested increasing the dose but this had the relatively rare secondary effect of making things worse, not better, so we gradually reduced the dosage. Although in hindsight I believe Baclofen made no difference in Roisin's case, it was worth a try but, if it did work at all, it was only for a short time.
I am sorry this is not more helpful!
Christopher.
Thank you for your reply Christopher i think we will give it a try because his arm is now quite stiff and it is beginning to pull on my back when i do his exercising (he has got very little self movement). From what the gp said today it could improve the stiffness and help with the spasms that he has. Even if it just slows it down i will be happy.
i hope and pray that you can find some comfort in helping us with our journeys as we hope your new journey will get more bearable as time goes on. Janexx
Christopher,
I also found that it made my husband worse...so he stopped taking it.

we tried it, but it seemed to make his balance worse, so we didn't stick with it very long. Why not give it a go. You can stop if it doesn't help, and it won't make the disease progress faster. Our neurologist had us try just about everything possible, on that basis. good luck, ec
Hi jzygirl I have taken 3 x 10mg tablets a day and found it really helpful with stiffness and uncle tension in my arm and leg. Probably worth giving it a try
My husband was on it for at least 2-3 years before he died. I can't tell you if it helped with his stiffness and rigidity-- I would say yes for a time but it did give him relief for the pain he suffered. We couldn't have done without it. All the best!

Hi Jzygirl
My husband started on Baclofen, 2 or more years ago but it didn't seem to have any good effect so he stopped and carried on Sinemet.....he isn't taking that either now after 3 years
Of course everyone is different and it may be good for your husband.....it can't help to try Baclofen but I would say, not to be afraid to tell the doctors if it doesn't change anything for the good........no point at all taking any medication if it doesn't work...that is why my husband isn't taking Sinemet anymore as well......He recently didn't take it for a few days after a mix up at the pharmacy and I didn't notice any difference. It has now been 4 weeks without Sinemet.
He has CBD
Take care

I was given baclofen for spasticity in my left leg. When I reached max dose of 30mg when I woke up the next day and could barely stand without falling I also have severe freeze of gait. I have seen 5 neurologists who all deny baclofen as a cause. Most are pursuing a diagnosis of Parkinson's which is very gradual. I have suffered with this condition for almost 3 years and it is getting worse
Find something else I have been greatly harmed by baclofen: gait freeze poor balance
