Christmas here too

After several heart attacks we got our tree up and running . It seems unbelievable that this time last year my wife was able to dress the tree - something she has loved to do for the past 47 years and has done beautifully .The illness has progressed so fast that she neither really had the interest or ability to do it . I tried to encourage her and she did try to stand and put a few baubles on but her balance was so bad that she quickly gave up which was both sad and a relief all in one . However she did deliver a series of imperious instructions as to where I was going wrong and how I should remedy it until she suddenly fell asleep and I finished it off . When she woke later she asked me where the tree had come from so I decided discretion was the better part of valour and claimed total ignorance and blamed the christmas tree fairy which seemed to appease her -now for mince pie making !

Brilliant ! I'm sure your wife appreciated the work of the tree fairy who has done a great job. Has the mince pie fairy been successful too?

tut tut are you implying I can't make mince pies ? Never happier than when up to my elbows in flour and butter and mincemeat laced with port - which obviously one has to sample t as one goes along .

Oh never! As our 3 sons all do the cooking for their wives and Colin was pretty good in the kitchen I almost expect husbands to be able to produce good food. Our eldest son has just opened his secoNd restaurant , the first in the Michelin guide and our middle son runs a catering business at festivals from a fully equipped marquee. I don't suppose they will provide port laced mince pies though so do you do mail order? How much port will make it to the pie ? Enjoy hic!
