What are the differences between psp and cbd?

Hello I wonder if anyone can offer me any help please? My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's 4 years ago which changed to a diagnosis of psp a few months ago. She has recently seen a different consultant and on previous history and brain scans he mentioned cbd. He said this is very similar to psp and future progress is much the same. But what is the real difference between the two and how can you be sure which one she has. We are awaiting another appointment but as many if you will understand I'm trying to find out as much information as possible. Thank you for any help you can offer Ell1e25

THEY ARE BOTH VERY DIFFICULT TO DX BUT I DO KNOW THAT PSP DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE USUAL PARKINSONS DRUGS ALTHOUGH HAVING SIAD THAT I SEEM TO BE RESPONDING TO THE AMANTADINE WHICH MAY ONLY BE TEMPORARY SO I AM MAKING THE MOST OF THIS SMALL RESPITE THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO TO FIND OUT MORE ON THE TWO DISEASES IS TO GOOGLE THEM BOTH THEER IS TONS OF INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET -- MUCH MORE THAN ANYONE CAN TELL YOU ON HERE BUT STAY IN TOUCH AS THE SITE IS FULL OF VERY HELPFUL AND KIND PEOPLE #''

My husband may have a combination of the 2 according to our neurologist. I've read about everything I can on both and a lot of symptoms overlap each other. What I can gather is with CBD you have more difficulty with numbers, like remember number sequences, doing math is more difficult, even counting can be a struggle sometimes (especially counting backwards). Seems that the dementia or cognitive problems may be worse with CBD, but that I'm not sure. My husband has a lot of cognitive issues. Not like Alzheimer's, though, he does know something is not right, he refers to it as his brain has stopped working. Also CBD can affect one side more than the other at first. Your hand may seem to have a mind of it's own. The other day, my husband had taken his pills, and was looking down at the chair saying the chair was all wet and couldn't figure out why. At the same time the hand that the glass of water was in was up in the air pouring the water onto the chair. He had no idea that was happening. Thankfully that has only happened once! He is weaker on one side than the other. I would make a list of all the symptoms your mom has experienced in the past and currently and bring that with you to your next appointment. Read everything you can get your hands on about both PSP and CBD. Unfortunately sometimes it's just a guess with the drs. also.

take care

Thank you both for your replies. My mom has always said her left side is worse than the right, her legs seem to stay in the air when she sits or crosses her legs and she didn't know it, that was the very first thing we noticed. I will do some more research, I suppose I dont want to accept the fact that with either cbd or psp it will be a hard road and I'm scared of losing her and seeing her live with this heartbreaking illness. I feel that knowing all I can may help the both of us to come to terms with it. Sending you both good wishes

Hello Ell1e25

I've tried, unsuccessfully, to copy pages from the PSPA booklet entitled 'Your personal guide to PSP' which has a section explaining in layman's terms the differences between the two conditions. If you are in the UK it is easy to obtain a copy by calling their helpline 0300 0110 122 or email helpline@pspassociation.org.uk.

I'm sure this question has cropped up before and it may be worth searching the site using the search tool on the top right of this page. Hope you find what you want.

Kind regards, Jerry

You'd have to check it out but I've heard that CBD "generally" affects one side of the body more than the other. Vertical Gaze Palsy is one definite symptom of PSP. That is the inability of the patient to follow a finger held in front of them up or down without having to move their head. Most people can move their eyes up and down and follow the finger in front of them without moving their head. You should go to the CurePSP.org site because they discuss PSP, CBD, and MSA diseases and the symptoms. Jimbo
