Foot drop

Just wondered if anyone suffers foot drop as part of their disease . I think I have it in my right foot as cannot move it left or right and struggle to move it up even. I was told I have clonus in my right ankle when first diagnosed with cbd. Think I have spasticity in my right leg too! Thank you folks. :)

Yes, that was my guy's first symptom, and the cause of a lot of falls. It has never been addressed, that is, no particular treatment of it has ever been offered. He was never given a brace, and I don't think it would have been much use. He does do a number on his right shoes!

Hi eastern cedar.

Thanks for your reply . if you don't mind me asking , did your husband have clonus in the ankle to start with ? Not sure if the two go hand in hand .all the best Ryan:)

Hmmm...I had to look up clonus, and the answer is that I'm not sure. For a while a few years ago he went through a period in which he did have sudden, sharp flexing of his ankle at night, which resulted in my legs being painfully clawed by his toes - an uncomfortable way for me to wake up! He said he was having cramps. It went away on its own. Could that have been "clonus"?

Hi easterncedar

Yes that does sound familiar and I am having cramps as well.my toes do strange things like curling etc.it's hard to know what's happening sometimes isn't it with out an expert on hand to tell you what is really going on.it's like you really have to find your own way isn't it.wish I could see my neurologist more often! When I was originally diagnosed the neurologist flexed my foot at the ankle and it sent my whole right leg into a mad shaky sort of tremor or repeated reflex.hard to explain really but that's why he said it was Parkinson's plus syndrome!thanks again for responding.just as well we all have each other on here !:)

For hope I can offer that the leg cramps and foot spasms have gone away. They just faded out. His right foot and leg are weak, but the PT seems at last to be helping with that. He's learning to "step big" and to shift his weight more completely when he walks, and, it does seem to help with the dragging. What you are going through is more extreme than his problem - it sounds very disturbing and uncomfortable, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it - but I hope it passes, as psp symptoms often seem to do.

It really does help to be able to talk to folks in the same situation, doesn't it? I'm so grateful for this place and all the people in this community.

Cheeky, As I understand it PSP and CBD have many similar symptoms. I've read that CBD can center on one side of the body and not the other but don't know if that's true for sure. We didn't experience any of the symptom you describe. I did physical exercises for Sharyn on the bed. I moved arms, legs, ankles, and feet. Don't know if this helps but she did enjoy it and cooperated as much as she could. Jimbo

Thanks jimbo .

Your input is always most welcome. I am seeing my neurologist in three weeks time so really need to get some answers I think . going to ask about coming off the levadopa . I've already gone down to stalevo 100mg three times daily from 125mg four times daily. Still having pain in my ankle and calve muscle with stiffness etc. Think my right arm is getting weaker too . even my neurology nurse didn't know what to do without neurologists opinion. She is writing to him after seeing me last week ! Thankfully we are having lovely weather in south east England today so it helps me to enjoy the day. Hope your weather is good too and you are OK ! Ryan:)

yes I have troublel ifting my left foot I slide it along I can't talk or see well either. I find that my joints are getting stiff also

My guy has been dragging his right foot for years, but that symptom is definitely being somewhat relieved by his new PT program, as is his overall stiffness, which has been significant. I'm sure the PT won't, can't, stop the progression of the disease, but I think it might be making him more comfortable and perhaps safer - at least for a little while. It's early days yet. I will write more when I know more.

Hi mombcd1

Thanks for your reply.

I also take tumeric and curcumin . I think both of these help to some degree. At the moment I am on stalevo 100mg three times daily . I have a 20mg citalopram pill daily . I also have baclofen 10mg sometimes three times daily . To be honest I think baclofen helps more than the stalevo and would like to come off these as I think they affect my mood ! Then I have clonazepam 0.5 to help me get to sleep!

Hi Cheekychops -

Tony didn't have foot drag but suffered from cramps in his legs at night early on (when it was diagnosed as "probably Parkinson's") but it seemed to go away later. Baclofen possibly helped.
