Malecare is committed to making clinical trials reach everyone. Most efforts by other organizations have failed. Many cause harm by stigmatizing patients or limiting information by zip code. After considerable research during the past year, Malecare believes we have an effective solution.
Malecare proposes a simple, practical, patient-focused solution: a universal $1000 annual federal tax credit (and, possibly, a much lesser, direct cash payment to those with no earnings) for every full or partial year a patient participates in a clinical trial. Patients are eligible and free to use the tax credit in any way they want: travel, groceries, or new clothes - all of these are up to them. Additional reimbursements for specific needs are not affected.
The Pathfinder Act helps increase clinical trial participation in several ways:
Tax credit.
Creates organic conversations about trials.
New medications and therapies developed sooner.
More patients learn about trials as novel treatment opportunities.
No stigmas.
Politically bipartisan.
We are working with a top-level member of Congress. In 2025, we'll begin lining up congressional sign-ons with a good possibility for approval. Those members of Congress and staffers whom we've talked to see Pathfinder as clearly defined and apolitical. The compliment I've heard most during the past year is: "This is good policy."
The Pathfinder Act exemplifies how Malecare creates effective and impactful work that helps all of us live longer and happier lives. Please allow me to say further, "We do things. We don't B.S."
