Urinary bother; is Flomax a solution?

SBRT plus ADT for 12 months after clean PSMA and 3+4, 4+3, and 4+4. Still up peeing 3 times a night after 4.5 months post radiation. (Down from 8 times). Does anyone know if Flomax will help? Or are there other solutions? I don’t want to take flomax if i don’t have yo as it screws with BP, but i will if it would give me a better night’s sleep. Doc will give me an Rx—but will it make a difference? Need your advice, warriors.

The low BP lasts only a week or two. I can't imagine anyone not using it for that reason. Just get up slowly, and sit down while peeing.

Thank you so much. Will begin a regimen of flomax today. I’ll write in a week or so to let you know how it goes. Cheers,Lester

Flomax helps increase the flow rate of peeing but is unlikely to change the frequency of getting up over night.

It does help with that. The problem is not emptying enough, that's what gives you that urge to go more often. I used it for two months after my radiation treatments, since then I can easily go six hours.

It depends on why the bladder isn't fully emptying. In my case the prostate is enlarged and pushing up into the bladder preventing it emptying. Flomax does not help with that. However, RT to the prostate can help if it reduces the size and hence reduces the pressure on the bladder.

Your doctor should have seen this and put you on an immediate short course of dutasteride

I'm on Gemtesa. Relaxes the bladder muscle. I now get up once if at at all.

Great.i tried to get a script but it cost 450 a month with insurance. Too rich for my bladder. Still looking for alternatives.

I recently began taking Silodosin which is similar to Flowmax and Rapaflo, and it seems to be helping my pee stream at night. Also, my radiation oncologist said that Beta Sitosterol is a "natural" alternative to these prescription meds, although I haven't tried it. Also cranberry pills can help with discomfort from a burning sensation.

I used Flomax and it helped. It was about nine months post radiation when I could get through the night. Takes a while to heal.

Did you take flomax the whole time? Do you think it was the flomax or the passage of time and healing?

The Flomax definitely helped my stream. I had some reduced flow anyway, and had been prescribed it prior, but stopped. I’m still on it, but that’s because I like the benefit. I don’t think that’s from radiation.

The nocturia resolved over time. I’m sure the Flomax helped with emptying, but I don’t think it helped the healing process.
