blood test tomorrow

I had a radical prostectomy last September, my PSA blood tests since have gone up from 0.02, 0.05, 0.08 & 0.13, I’m 63 active and working, feeling good but obviously a bit concerned with the rising PSA,

Well I’ve got my next test tomorrow, wish me luck

If you had any adverse pathology, it would be time to see a radiation oncologist about salvage radiation.

no adverse pathology, 4 lymph nodes ok and the prostate gland wall not broken, urology nurse said it could possibly be a particle of prostate left behind by surgeon, not got my blood test back yet but still if it rises to 0.20 I would have a scan

The nurse is wrong - healthy prostate tissue left behind does not generate serum PSA.

oh dear, what causes PSA then?

Prostate cancer

I know men that have had a radical prostectomy and they have had PSA of 0.18 then after more tests it’s gone down, have they got prostate cancer then? I’m sorry to ask these questions and obviously you are very knowledgeable or qualified in this field, my urology nurse said it was a possibility but a PSA of 0.13 was still very low

However, even though it is cancer, not every recurrence has to be treated :

TA is right. I wish you all the good luck in the world. But you do not need luck. If your PSA keeps raising, you are going need to begin discussions with an RO regarding SRT.

I’m a realist, and I’m aware that radiotherapy looks on the horizon, it is what it is, I’m ready for it, bring it on!!!

Been there, done that. Not a big deal other than EVERY DAY! And make sure your fiber intake is not high during this if you are plant based. Imodium AD liquid is your friend. 1.5 years after now and undetectable.

Good luck. I'm in uk and get my result on same day as long as blood is taken by 11am at GP. It gets uploaded to tru nth. I think access depends on which nhs authority you are in. Its still nerve wrecking pressing refresh every 10 mins as it seems to get uploaded anytime from 1530 to 1930 :(

I know the feeling, my urologist nurse usually calls me back the same day

I would think that salvage radiation will be a breeze if you need it compared to your RP experience. Except that the number of sessions is inconvenient, though you get to know the radiation staff pretty well.....I bought mine some celebration fudge for my last day. Good luck! 🦊
