Hello! In March last year I had a psa test of 34 which was followed by an MRI scan. The scan showed an area of concerned and I was advised to have a targeted biopsy under general anaesthetic. I agreed to this and had a pre op 8 weeks ago but still not had a date. Lists are long here in the UK and I accept that many people are having to wait far longer than pre pandemic. I am 65 in a few days time and still do a physical job.
Does anyone have any experience of a PSA score in the mid 30s that didn’t turn out to be Prostate cancer. I’m starting feel a bit anxious as it’s 10 months since I had this result but not yet had a biopsy or treatment. Thank you for any insights/advice etc… Regards, Jess

I don't blame you for feeling anxious. Unless you have some reason to suspect prostatitis or suffer from urinary retention, it probably is prostate cancer. What was your PIRADS score on your MRI?
Another option is to get a bone scan/CT or a PSMA PET/CT scan. If it shows lesions, and the lesions shrink when you start hormone therapy, it is prostate cancer and you don't even need a biopsy. Maybe you can get a scan more quickly than you can get a biopsy.
Hi! Thanks for your response. I was told by the consultant (telephone)regarding the MRI that on a scale of 1-5 it was a 5. I assume that was the pirads score. Two previous scans had shown inflammation and biopsies had not detected cancer. However, these scans were 6&7 years previous and my psa was 17.
Well, that history of inflammation (prostatitis) and negative biopsies argue in favor of benign causes. Do you have any symptoms of prostatitis(e.g., pelvic pain, difficulty peeing or frequent peeing)? Yes, 5 is the PIRADS but it is only a suspicion and chronic inflammation is a confounder.
If you can get a bone scan/CT at least, that might allay your anxiety until you can get a biopsy.
Hi family man, what you need to consider is that you are being constrained by the NHS systems. If you are unhappy with your treatment, waiting times ask your GP for a referral to a specialist cancer hospital like Royal Marsden in London ( probably Sutton hospital rather than Chelsea, for prostate problems) or Christie in Manchester. If none local to you do some research for best in your area. It is important that you keep asking and if make it happen especially with many hospitals near capacity because of COVID. Do not allow yourself to be a victim of the system.
Greetings familyman, (the following is helpful if you've had a biopsy -)
Please tell us your bio. Age? Location? When diagnosed? Treatment(s)? Treatment center(s)? Scores Psa/Gleason? Medications? Doctor's name(s)?
