Xtandi+Lupron

I have prostate cancer Gleason 7-8, I chose Lupron over surgery and radiation. PSA is 6.02. Dr wants me to add xtandi w/ Lupron any suggestions

Why did you not want to cure it? Are you over 85 or have significant comorbidities?

Pretty sure that surgery or radiation are the cake and Lupron (ADT) is the icing!!!

Depending on the extent of your cancer, I would think that you want the cake and the icing could be somewhat negotiable!!! Depends on a lot of factors though!!!

Hello Bradyboy115. I had the prostate removed in 1999 at the age of 55 but cancer had already grown outside the prostate and they did not get it all. Two years later had 35 radiation treatments then went on several meds. Change meds when ever the one I was on stopped working. Went on Lupron about 5 years ago , fatigue and hot flashes. It stopped working about three months ago. Then started Xtandi along with Lupron. Both together make me feel like hell and now I have vertigo along with fatigue and hot flashes. I have just about all the side effects listed except weight loss which I could use

Hate to make this so long. Now at age 75 I have been fighting this stuff for 20 years so don’t give up. Xtandi seems to be working and you may not have any problems with it. Just thought I would let you know my experience with it. Doc says what ever they put me on I want like it so I am trying to deal with it. Every day I have to spend with my family and friends is a plus. You take care and never give up. God bless and good luck

Your PSA is 6.2 now:

. . . When did you start taking Lupron ?

If you've been on it for a while, "PSA=6.2" shows that your tumor(s) is no longer "hormone-sensitive" (or, another way to say it, you have "castration-resistant" prostate cancer).

It'll keep growing:

. . . Another drug is needed to suppress it.

So the Xtandi recommendation makes sense, to me.
