Blog: "I Lowered My PSA" - An Interesting Read

I happened to land on a blog of a gentleman who was diagnosed with G3+4 and did his own research regarding diet, supplements and other lifestyle changes. His doctors said he needed treatment, but said he could wait a few months. He used those months to experiment to see if he could do anything to avoid RP or other treatment.

I'm by no means endorsing this as a treatment plan (nor does he) or for any other reason than I thought it was very interesting. I'm curious if anyone else has read it.

Here's the link: iloweredmypsa.com/?page_id=2

Thoughts?

Yeah. He's been here. As well as every other PC specific site. If I'm not mistaken, he stopped TRT, cleaned up his diet and his PSA went down. IIRC he also has a rather high BMI.

Same thing happened to my buddy. Cleaned up his diet. Lost 30lbs. Stopped TRT (was as high as 900) It took like 3-4 months for his PSA to go back towards a normal/low range (hes like low 3's now, T is like 300's). But he still has G6 cancer and is on A/S. I fail to find out anything of value in this "treatment plan". It's clean living that probably reduced his inflammation and coupled with his TRT stoppage reduced his PSA.

I will reserve my nomination ballot for the Nobel Prize of Physiology this year until I see a result centered on the affliction instead of treating the causes. But I can be swayed. Money talks ya know.😀

He needed to show us a graph that correlated PSA and T at the same time. Pretty common for TRT to raise PSA. Seems like a sort of prelude to a sales pitch or something. People are always marketing something these days in social media. Maybe "The Pomegranate cure" or something.

I didn't get the impression he was trying to sell anything. I'm not sure what he would sell.... He basically made a list of all the things he's doing and taking - all stuff that can easily be bought as is.

You mean you could be swayed if he paid you? haha!!

But seriously, I was wondering if the reason his PSA numbers and the size of his tumor decreasing substantially (I think he said his tumor size decreased by 92%) was mainly due to stopping TRT. He says his T actually went up after he stopped taking it but also started exercising and making his changes.

Hehee! I don't put much faith in tumor and/or varying size. I had 3 MRI's that showed varying sizes of "tumors". Some disappeared. Some got smaller. I've had 24 cores taken from 3 specific tumors (51 total cores) and none of them produced cancer. My G8 cancer was found on my last MRI, again, not within a tumor, with the notation "much improved from last imaging". Sneaky stuff for sure!

Do you attribute your changes to supplements and lifestyle changes?

Also, I'd like to find somebody who can help me understand what these supps may or may not be doing regarding my own cancer. Would a medical oncologist know about this stuff at all?

I would attribute some of my MRI changes to my change in health habits for sure. But not my PSA. I know there's not a lot of info on the subject but I firmly believe that my BMI and lifestyle(sitting at a desk)poor posture while sitting attributed to my lesion-infested excuse for a prostate...that I once had! I think it's been proven that eating correctly, balanced and responsibly helps one not have disease and can help in the management of disease(from a comorbidity standpoint) but as far as curing it AFTER one is diagnosed....I don't think that's been established. When I started down this path in 2017 I tried every supplement known to mankind and none helped my urinary issues or lowered my PSA. It just kept going up. I'd expect a MO to know more for sure but to give a definitive answer on fighting cancer with diet, I'm not so sure? Give it a go!!

I really appreciate your thoughtful reply. My "journey" along this scenic cancer road trip is similar to yours, so far at least.... I've been trying every supplement but not getting desired results. Has it helped? No way to know for sure. The vegan diet has made me feel WAY better than I ever did, but is it slowing the cancer? I have no idea.

I'll post any results from a meeting with an MO.

Btw, my doctor at City of Hope is the chief investigator for the white button mushroom clinical trial currently in phase II. He told me last week to absolutely continue consuming it - that it has proven protective benefits. Will it "benefit" me enough to avoid treatment? That's the 64 trillion dollar question now isn't it?

That is the question! Good luck!

Now that I posted this, it appears all of this guy's posts are now in my "related posts" list. I'll see what he had to say here.

PSA isn't cancer. You may want to send him these:

Thanks for sending those articles. I think you make valid points regarding his situation.

In his most recent blog entry, he stated that his tumor size had decreased by 92% according to his most recent MRI. He said his urologist said he could now recommend AS for him.

Anyone can say anything in a blog. There is no fact checking.

True, but then we're essentially talking about calling somebody a liar or completely negligent in what they're reporting from stated doctors and tests. Obviously, I don't know this person, so he could be misleading for some reason.

For you, is there a reason you don't believe what he's stating about his results?

Even on this site, I have found that patients leave out key pieces of information. It is not because they are trying to deceive others, it is because they don't know that what they are leaving out changes everything. When a doctor takes a history, he is usually more thorough. And when the patient's story is reported as a case report in a peer-reviewed journal, several experienced eyes get to look at the data.

More importantly, anecdotes are never as convincing as the experience of many patients in a trial. Because of a cognitive error called the availability heuristic, people are more likely to take seriously the experience of one person they know (or sort-of know from an online blog) than the experience of hundreds of men summed up in statistics.

I totally agree regarding anecdotal information. Yet, he offers some compelling information about what and how he researched. His end result of the tumor size decreasing on imaging and his doctors recommending AS are factual, even if general.

Did you read his whole blog including January 2025?

My uro at City of Hope is the chief investigator of the white button mushroom trial and he told me to continue taking it - that it definitely has protective properties against cancer. Some of these other supplements that Patrick is taking may also have strong anti-cancer benefits. I need to learn more about them, though.

I didn't read it at all for the reasons I stated. Maybe this will protect you in future:

I'm sure clean living and a positive mental attitude can only be good for all of us. BUT - when i was diagnosed with G8 and confined to the prostate (hopefully) my PSA was 8.1. I didn't do a thing for 3 months, went on a holiday, ate what I wanted and enjoyed a few drinks.

When I got back from 8 weeks away, my PSA was down to 4.9 ..... my RO had no explanation.

I asked for another MRI and the 2 lesions were still there but had not advanced in size. So i didn't go on any diet and my PSA dropped almost by 50% with no explanation. Of course if you read my Bio, I went for radiation and HDR brachy and ADT. I've just finished ADT and my PSA is <0.002 which in Australia is classified as undetectable. I hope it stays that way.

Anyway, there's my pennies worth.
