At nearly 40 weeks your baby is fully developed, the last few weeks they just fatten up! So it's fine for the baby to come out now.
If a doc recommends to it then they must have a reason, possibly Your age if you are very young they don't like you going over your due date or if you baby is measuring big and they don't want it to get bigger making it more dangerous for you.
That's just a couple of reasons I can think of but I'm sure if you ask why they will tell you, to b induced can be a longer process but not necessarily, they will check you regularly to keep an eye on you and baby.
my mum was induced with all 3 of us, I think with my older brother cos he was big(shes only 5ft 1 our dad is 6ft 4) , I was induced on the day I was due not sure yet and my younger brother a month early because her antibodies saw him as a foreign body and we're attacking ( she had to have an amneo to check his lungs were developed) they were all quick labours I think 7-8 hrs, 5 ish and with my younger brother 2 and a half hrs from 1st pain to holding him. she said if she could have chose she wouldn't change it.
I went natural a week over due date and ended in an emergency c section , I would defiantly took an induction at your point, no worries!
Best of luck
I agree totaly with jds123. When I was pregnant with my first I was due to be induced the day she actualy decided to come on her own on.If you are worried or concerned chat with your midwife or the doctor who advised that you have to be induced or the midwifes at the place your going to have your baby and express your concerns. Doctors won't induce you unless there is a a valid reason. best of luck
I was induced at 39weeks with my son and he was born perfect 6pounds exsactely whatever your docter says is important it could be more risky to leave it anything from 37weeks is usually considered full term infact my friend just had twins at 37weeks so don't worry and good luck hun x
